Re: Aliasses not showing up in Outlook (classic)
If the alias is enabled for sending in Outlook on the web (Settings > Mail > Compose & Reply), it will show up in classic but you need to restart outlook. Note: there are some sync issues between the settings in new Outlook and Outlook on the web - the changes I made in web are not showing in new Outlook but synced to classic after restarting it. If you are using an older build, you may need to remove the account from Outlook and add it back.34Views0likes0CommentsRe: Using New Outlook with an iCloud Account
That usually indicates a problem with the sync. Remove the account - then confirm in icloud.com that the contacts are not messed up there before adding it back to outlook. If they are messed up online, iCloud keeps 10 backups - restore an older one before adding the account back to outlook.59Views1like0CommentsRe: Using New Outlook with an iCloud Account
the Contacts have wrong characters and errors. These do not appear in iCloud.com or in my Outlook 2019, which uses iCloud for Windows. Do you mean they are not contacts that you ever created, or do you mean they are your contacts but were messed up in the sync? What are the 'wrong characters' and errors?90Views0likes0CommentsRe: No "Add account" in View Settings ... Email account
You cannot add other accounts to OWA - Microsoft removed that capability a year ago (it was only available for subscribers). Either use uahoo.com if you want it in a browser or use the new Outlook app - which looks like OWA, but is an app.9Views0likes0CommentsRe: Can't see Mail Rules in Outlook Version 1.2024.916.200 (Production).
What type of email account do you use? IMAP or Exchange? Rules are not supported in IMAP accounts. honestly, think classic Outlook is better for IMAP accounts, in part because new Outlook syncs the IMAP mailbox to Microsoft servers while classic is a direction to the IMAP server.9Views0likes0CommentsRe: Outlook.com account a folder appeared and there is no option to delete it
The naming is definitely corrupt. Did that folder replace the one with the numbers? If yes, then you are correct. Microsoft is planning to remove the Conversation History folder as it is no longer being used (no ETA yet). Until then, it can be hidden using mfcmapi.8Views0likes0CommentsRe: Using Categories in Outlook
No. Leave suggestion and feedback for this from the Help tab or at Outlook (new) · Community When you have the reading pane off or on the bottom (or on a wide screen), category is in front of the subject - in compact view it's under the subject. You can sort by category - click on the word after the sort icon to change it. Filter by category by clicking on a category in the message list or pinning the category to favorites (in View > View Settings > Accounts > Categories - set it as favorite).13Views0likes0CommentsRe: Outlook.com account a folder appeared and there is no option to delete it
It's not a normal name for a default folder, but that is what it appears to be - or so the server thinks - that is what you it or rename it. Do you also sync the account with a smart phone? It's possible the phone created it and the correct name did not sync over. Antispam and other add-ins will also create folders. If you have classic Outlook, you could use mfcmapi to delete it (or hide it). Instructions for mfcmapi -How to Hide or Delete Outlook's Default Folders - I would try deleting it first and see if it comes back. Otherwise, contact support and ask them to delete it. You need to use the chat system (can request a call back if you have a subscription). Link was for people seeing your thread who wanted learn more... and I wanted to confirm if the background permissions were checked, mostly for people finding the thread, but also so I know if it made a difference if someone asks. :)70Views2likes0CommentsRe: Outlook Calendar Usage
If you don't need to update or cancel the events, copying will work fine. But if they need to send updates or cancel the event, they need to do it from the original mailbox. If you need to keep the mailbox, copy the events to a new shared mailbox and give the new person rights to the calendar so they can open it if any need canceled or updated... in this case, I would cancel the original meeting and create a new updated meeting in the new calendar. If you don't need to keep the user's mailbox, you could repurpose the mailbox - change the display name and add a new email address and remove the license then use it as the shared calendar. If only the calendar is shared, no one will see the other folders.18Views0likes1CommentRe: Outlook Calendar Usage
If you export and import to the new user's mailbox, updating or cancelling meetings will be more difficult. Because it has meeting invites, it would be best to either make the mailbox a shared mailbox and give the new person full rights to the mailbox or just the calendar, leaving the old meetings on it. Or, if the new person needs a mailbox, give her the retiree's mailbox. You can add a new default address to the mailbox but should leave the old address as an alias. This would also be a good time to consider if you want the new person to use her calendar or a shared mailbox calendar to use for scheduling. The advantage of a shared mailbox calendar is others can be given access to it as needed.28Views0likes3CommentsRe: Outlook hacked
Exactly. It's an attempt to get money... actually had one guy say he was going to pay, even after I said the email was a lie... because he visited "naughty" web sites and didn't want his friends to know. {sigh} Hacker claims a trojan virus is on my phone which is invisible to antivirus software. No idea whether this is complete nonsense. That is nonsense - they want to scare the user into paying. This is my article when my account received a similar message: No, you're not being blackmailed The attempts to get in are unrelated to that message - the address was exposed in a database breech and all the bad actors are seeing if they can get in. One option if you have a lot of sign in attempts in the activity list at https://account.live.com/Activity : 1. Add a new alias, set it as primary then remove sign in permission from the current address 2. Add an alias here - https://account.live.com/names/manage DO NOT REMOVE THE CURRENT ADDRESS! If you do, it is gone forever. You only want to add a new alias and set it as primary. 3. Change sign in preferences using the link at the bottom of that page - https://account.live.com/SignInPreferences When you sign in, you need to use the new alias. Do not use the alias anywhere else - only for logging in so it won't get exposed in a data breech. I have screenshots in this article: https://www.outlook-tips.net/tips/keeping-hackers-microsoft-accounts/25Views0likes0CommentsRe: Lost Outlook Password!
She needs to just keep filling out the form, twice a day, every day, until she gets it back. When she gets the account back, add at least 2 addresses or phone numbers to the account on the security page. This will help her get back in if she ever forgets the password again. Is there any chance she logged into the account from a browser and let the browser save the password? If yes, the browser setting's password repository.14Views0likes0CommentsRe: How contacts are supposed to work in the Outlook web app
using new outlook most contacts show "add contact" as if they are new contacts not yet saved. That usually means the item you are looking at is an autocomplete entry, not the real contact. If you have the new contacts switch at the top, turn it off and look in Folders- or in classic Outlook, select all the contacts and assign a category to them. Then view them in the Category list.39Views0likes0CommentsRe: Outlook Mac & Android pause syncing Yahoo mail
Check your account settings - do you see the yahoo server names? If not, the account is a Microsoft cloud account and the mail syncs with the cloud server and down to outlook. To fix, you need to remove the account from and add it back. If asked to remove the account from everywhere, say yes. This deletes the cached mail from the server and creates a fresh cloud mailbox.188Views0likes0CommentsRe: What to do about an out-of-date .ost file?
>> A search for all the .ost files on my PC yields 41 matches. The ost name is alias@domain format at C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\ - if you have multiple ost files with the same name and a number following the name, delete all. You do not need to delete the account and add it back (you could, but need to set up signatures again), just close outlook, delete the ost files and restart outlook.37Views0likes0Comments
