Re: Now in public preview: Pronouns in the Profile card
Is there going to be a way for users to add pronouns via a mobile device? I see that iOS/ Android and marked as "-", which I interperate to mean not available, but having tried to add pronouns via the Teams, Outlook & M365 Android apps the functionality isnt available - nor is it via the browser on mobile. This massively limits the ability for mobile device only users in my organisation being able to use this feature.Make apply retention label a required field
Hi, My organisation is preparing for the move to O365, one of the things we are deciding is the way we going to implement retention policies in the new world. What we would like to do is to create retention labels/ policies in the Security & Compliance Center and have these surface as drop-down choices within a mandatory field within Exchange email, Office 365 groups, OneDrive and SharePoint documents. We've set everything up, but it doesn't appear that the apply retention label field is a required field (see below). Is it possible to make this required? Thanks AnthonySolved4.3KViews0likes9CommentsRe: Policy Tips not showing up
Chandrika Padaki Bumping this thread as it is directly impacting my organisation's ability to roll out DLP specifically in Outlook and I don't know where else to turn! My organisation had been testing DLP policies and all was working well until November 2020 where policy tips stopped appearing within the Outlook desktop app. This was noticed by some of us who were on Office version 2006 and above, most recently 2010 & 2011 are still affected by this issue. As others ITT have said, policy tips still appear in Outlook on web. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/troubleshoot/security/can't-display-dlp-policytip from Microsoft highlights the issue is due to basically the office version being newer than the DLP policy evaluation engine, but all the "resolution" steps don't fix the issue. I've raised this with Microsoft support, who tell me that I actually knew more about the issue than they did at the time, and they then closed the ticket as they had raised it with the product team. I've detailed everything regarding my experiences with this issue https://sharepointstuff.com/2021/01/20/data-loss-prevention-policy-tips-not-showing-in-outlook/, but can anyone else share their experiences with this. Is the workaround just to not use policy tips, don't use Outlook desktop? For me the tips are a big part of the adoption driver for rolling out DLP as it notifies users of sensitive information and next steps, im also not sure how other organisations can roll out DLP without policy tips in Outlook, when email is still one of the main tools people use for communication...6.1KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Sharepoint Spaces
Hi sa2my96, I don't believe there is a dedicated group for SP spaces (as yet), as far as I'm aware this is the only Microsoft community site: https://resources.techcommunity.microsoft.com/sharepoint-spaces/ As for open source libraries, I would personally recommend Pexels that offer royalty free 360 images (I'm not affiliated, I just use them a lot!): https://www.pexels.com/search/360/ Finally, touch device support was released for SP spaces in December, so have you tried on an iPad since then? Thanks Anthony932Views1like1CommentRe: Permission inheritance
Hi cbolwerk, you are correct every new SharePoint site is a site collection in the modern experience, so sub-sites inheriting permissions is a thing of the past! If you look in the advanced permissions settings, from there you are able to leverage any existing Microsoft 365 or security groups into the SharePoint groups that are created when the site is provisioned (Owners, Members, Visitors). Here's some more information on sharing and permissions in the modern experience: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/modern-experience-sharing-permissions#hub-site-permissions As part of your wider intranet build, have you looked at SharePoint home sites and hubs? If not, I'd suggest taking a look as they may shape your thinking: Hub sites: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/planning-hub-sites Home sites: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-sharepoint-blog/sharepoint-home-sites-a-landing-for-your-organization-on-the/ba-p/6219332.9KViews0likes0CommentsRe: What are the differences between "Green tick icons" & "Solid green circle with the white check mark"
Hi John John, the green tick with white background icon shows for cloud only files that, once opened, become a locally available file. The solid green tick icon shows for files marked as "Always keep on this device". You can also set up Storage Sense with Files on Demand to configure how long locally available files are kept on device for before becoming cloud only again: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/use-onedrive-and-storage-sense-in-windows-10-to-manage-disk-space-de5faa9a-6108-4be1-87a6-d90688d08a48190KViews1like0CommentsRe: Auto increment samples number with sub-samples
Hi fabiogiallo it's not exactly what your after, but you could do something similar to this which I wrote about creating an auto ID column and extend it to output the values you are after: https://wp.me/p9ToOl-jP Let me know if it works for you!731Views0likes1CommentRe: Migration Manager creates an new document library in user's OneDrive Site
Hi jimas_1966, are you migrating bulk fileshares using the JSON or CSV example that's given from Migration Manager. If so, leave the destination library blank and it will migrate the files into the default OneDrive Documents library for each user.6KViews0likes14CommentsRe: SharePoint Online - permissions to List Views
Hi sathena7, yes I'd agree being able to set permissions on list/library views would be good, but to be honest short of using uservoice if it's not in the roadmap now I'm not sure it will be any time soon. The only other things i would suggest would be to create the an additional list that holds the confidential columns and use a workflow to link the related list items together (i.e. create a hyperlink column thats populated with a link to list B from list A when a confidential item is added). You could then secure the lists as required and keep them joined up2.1KViews1like1CommentRe: Best practices for creating document libraries
Hi Katyara, the first thing I would say is, it depends! So if this is purely SharePoint we are talking about rather than a Teams connected SharePoint site then I think the below applies. I'll add a bit at the end for the above scenario. Another question I would ask is, do you need separate content types for those types you listed above? If any/ all of them share metadata, couldn't you just create a single content type with a "document type" choice or lookup column that adds the type in? You could then arrange your library views around that type. I've personally tried it both ways, single library or dedicated library for the CT, generally I've found users don't like looking in multiple places for things so I tend to stick to as few libraries as I can and try to make them metadata rich to leverage better views. With SharePoint on its own I do tend to still create new libraries and leave the default Documents, this is purely based on old habits dying hard though! Finally, if we are throwing Teams into the mix then I think the conversation is much different. As Teams used the Documents library and folders for each channel as standard, that kind of sets your stall out from the get go in terms of structure. So in this scenario I would say use the Documents library and add the content types in to add the value to the files uploaded within the Team.4.8KViews0likes0CommentsRe: SharePoint List item threshold? How to delete items?
Hi, aside from programmatically deleting items from the list, have you considered looking at how your power automate flows are running? Do they run every time a new item is added? If so is that required or could it be ran as a daily/ weekly task?1.6KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Sharepoint - Calendar
Untechsavy I would suggest the easiest way to do this based on the list you already have would be to create a calendar view from your list. You'll either need to use the created/modified dates as your start & end times for your calendar items otherwise you'll need to create new columns to support those values as they are required to populate the calendar. Here's a great run through of how to create a calendar view: https://stevenanichols.com/2015/05/15/sharepoint-calendar-views-3/1.5KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Prevent users from renaming 'General' folder
Kiril I second what Eva has said below, if you were to amend users permissions to read only then naturally they wouldn't be able to edit files. Like Eva has mentioned a good divert tactic would be to change the default view in SharePoint to filter out the general folder from view so that users cannot find it. Good luck!7.4KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Make apply retention label a required field
Hi Dean_Gross its not that everything needs to be retained, its that everything needs a retention policy applied to it. For example, we would want three drop-down choices in the "apply retention label" field: 1 year, 3 years or 7 years. This can be easily done via retention labels, but we would like the 7 year label to be the default label applied to all files uploaded across SharePoint. As mentioned, aside from using the keyword query editor or applying a default label to each SharePoint library there doesn't seem to be any other out the box way to achieve this.4KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Make apply retention label a required field
Hi Dean, Thanks for the link, i've been using that one for the basis of my workaround of applying retention labels via either content types, choice columns or managed metadata. What my organisation really wants is to be able to have a default retention label applied to all files within the O365 tenancy, much like you can with the previously mentioned sensitivity labels. From what I can see the only way you apply a default retention label is either the Joanna Klein route or via applying a retention label at the library level, is that a fair assessment?4.1KViews0likes2Comments
