Windows Server Essentials 2016 Client Backup on Windows 11 Pro unusably slow
I have just upgraded one machine to Windows 11 and everything appears to be working fine (a few tweaks needed for networking printing and some software updates). For WSE2016, I had to uninstall/reinstall the Windows Server Essentials 2016 Client Connector for it to connect correctly to the server - but everything seem OK with the ability to configure the backup working fine (a useful test of proper connectivity of the client to the server). HOWEVER, now I have started a client backup it has currently taken around 16 hours to backup to currently get to less than 40% complete. Previously the (incremental) client backups take minutes and they continue to work fine on my other machines, running Windows 10 Pro 21H2. All machines connected via Gbit wired network. Has anyone else tested WSE2016 Client Backup on Windows 11? Have you seen the same issue? How do we report this to Microsoft - I am reporting through Insider Feedback, but suspect the WSE2016 client may need updates, so want to make sure that the "bug" gets to the WSE2016 team as well, whilst it is still formally supported (End of Life being 11 January 2022). The PC is an Asus ROG Maximus XI Hero (WiFi) with Intel Ethernet adapter running Intel's latest driver (26.4) so I am also waiting for Intel to release updates with specific Windows 11 support, and for the first round for updates for WIndows 11 expected on 12 October.Microsoft To-Do Logon Fails on Web
I am logged on fine on the apps, but wanted to check something on the To-Do web app but can't get past the logon screen. I am logged on perfectly to Outlook.com on the web, OneDrive on the web, OneNote on the web, etc. but when I change to To-Do it goes back to the choose account screen! I have even gone to In Private to complete a fresh logon, and it also bounces back to the logon screen. The service status screen shows no problems, but it looks like there is a problem with the service, at least on the Web app! Anyone else seen this?822Views1like0CommentsRe: Keyboard shortcuts
As a workaround for now, there is an extension (which has an extra Windows component) called AutoControl Shortcut Manager that is available from the Chrome extension store https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/autocontrol-shortcut-mana/lkaihdpfpifdlgoapbfocpmekbokmcfd that allows you to map keyboard shortcuts to other keys - I have mapped Ctrl-K to Duplicate Tab (this is the one that really annoyed me as I used it a lot).3KViews1like1CommentRe: Keyboard shortcuts
As this is being used to REPLACE the current Edge browser, then it should at least use exactly the same keyboard shortcuts as the current Edge... and ideally have the option to select between Edge/IE/Chrome keyboard shortcuts. As well as making this an easy transition for existing users where the new Edge is effectively being forced on them by the migration, this is actually REALLY important for sight impaired users and those users who can't (for whatever reason) use mouse navigation --- keyboard shortcuts in this case are actually a critical part of how accessibility is delivered!2.9KViews1like0CommentsRe: Tab Preview - Discussion
Elliot Kirk I did like tab preview, especially for touch devices (and the way it is used on Xbox One). Adding this into the new Edge would be a sensible move, and would ensure that Edge continued to be more capable/usable on tablets and other small form factor Windows devices.29KViews8likes0CommentsRe: Reading List - Discussion
Elliot Kirk a few suggestions for the Reading List experience: 1. Whether it is in Collections or a separate feature, make sure the sync works for it, and ideally make it cross platform with Android/iOS. Reading Lists (or Collections) really have to be available everywhere and sync'd everywhere to be useful. 2. Provide a "Send to Reading List" share charm (or equivalent) for Windows apps and equivalent for Android/iOS. Being able to save the relevant URL from within an app such as Feedlab, Twitter, etc. was a really great capability back with the old Windows 8 Reader App, and having this capability once again available would make Edge and the Edge experience even more integrated into peoples workflow.13KViews2likes1CommentRe: Provide run / open / save / save as options when downloading files - Discussion
Elliot Kirk I would also add two more items: 1. make the download prompt significantly bigger, like it is on legacy Edge, and ideally have a pinnable list of downloads in progress (like legacy Edge)..... the current strip of downloads is much much too small on HiDPI screens - to the level that it is really easy to completely miss that anything is being downloaded! 2. provide more options and an easier interface (maybe consistent with any new download options) for when a file is identified as potentially unsafe as it has not been downloaded enough - as a musician, I find many of the sites with plugins and music related software get picked up as potentially unsafe, and the reporting process does not seem to do anything (at least not yet). having the ability to "trust" a website in terms if reputation (still scanning for viruses, etc.) would be a sensible addition to this process - maybe even feeding this back to MS to go into the whole process of deciding whether or not files on a website, and the website as a whole, are to be marked as untrusted.2.8KViews2likes0CommentsRe: Discussion - Set Aside Tabs and Warn on Close
Agree that Tab Set Aside is one of the major things that is missing for my workflow on new Edge. Yes there are extensions, but they are pretty ugly and nowhere near as intuitive as the legacy/tradition Edge approach. Please please do bring this back - and include it in the Sync engine as an option!3.6KViews2likes0CommentsRe: Discussion - Updating our interface with Fluent touches
HotCakeX completely with you on the size of text on the tab band and address bar - in fact on HiDPI monitors would ideally want it slightly larger! See the partial screenshot of full width of a 4k monitor set at 150% --- text on tabs is a little too small, text on address bar is fine, text on favourites is a little too small (but useful as such as can get loads in). I do think that being able to adjust each of these elements separately would be the ideal option, with some sensible defaults for different monitor resolutions/scaling.... and it should definitely adjust on tablets when in touch mode!3.6KViews0likes1Comment
