Does anyone have any tips for removing thousands of these ghost links from exel files?
Hello! Firstly thank you for taking the time to take a look! Short version - Is there a way via code or software to remove the links in the info bubbles below? If we can somehow copy and 'paste values' over them that would suffice, but doing so I have to highlight, copy, paste elsewhere, delete original, then paste the copy back. This would have to be done for thousands of workbooks with tens to hundreds of thousands + so manually isn't feasible Any suggestions are appreciated 🙂 Please let me know if this belongs in a different area! ==================== Backstory: We are migrating terabytes of data from on premises to azure files and then running 'LinkFixer' on the data to correct links referencing locations on the old shared drive. We migrated twice as much data at our toronto office in a weekend with no real issues, but here the tool is finding sometimes 1million + links in some of these files, and even if it can skip all of them, it has to check them in order to determine whether it can or not, so it is taking months I believe I found the ones that are a problem (screenshots below). Within fields like tenant ID and stuff it is some reason presenting a link to individual user's c drives and stuff. I noticed on one file I was testing on it seemed to link to my own onedrive (the sharepoint URL in the second creenshot below is onedrive once moved to my local device). The links in question are not needed, but excel and most tools are unable to find them (except the tool fixing links for the migration - is there a way via code or software to go through a folder and remove this unnecessary data from files? I tried making a script which for all *external links* not containing indicators of our share drive (I.E. S:, FSM-DC1, etc) it just copy the contents and paste over it the values only but that was not successful, I presume because it doesn't detect there as being a link to begin with.3.9KViews0likes1Comment
