Basic Authentication Retirement for legacy protocols in Exchange Online

Hello

With Microsoft making the following announcement...

"Beginning October 13, 2020, we will retire Basic Authentication for EWS, EAS, IMAP, POP and RPS to access Exchange Online. Note: this change does not impact SMTP AUTH.

There are several actions that you and/or your users can take to avoid service disruptions on client applications, and we describe them below. If no action is taken, client applications using https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ftechcommunity.microsoft.com%2Ft5%2FExchange-Team-Blog%2FUpcoming-changes-to-Exchange-Web-Services-EWS-API-for-Office-365%2Fba-p%2F608055&data=02%7C01%7Cdwyness%40centrality.com%7C193375add07e42f7c17f08d740df5bbc%7Cf8ff3ca3118544f4abc48d69a70eecf7%7C0%7C0%7C637049200388772271&sdata=SepgdQEmjQp3CiUS4eK8NonfSw6d%2FaC%2FmzfwjaNMWL4%3D&reserved=0.

Any application using OAuth 2.0 to connect to these protocols, will continue to work without change or interruption."

I was wondering if this had any implications for Surface Hub (1.0 and 2S).  I was under the impression they use EWS for calendar access but not sure whether this is Basic Authentication or OAuth 2.0

  • Hello DanielWyness,

Surface Hub uses Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) and not Exchange Web Services (EWS). However, this is also applicable for EAS. Please expect updates on this matter shortly on the usual channels.

    Thank you,

    Cezar
