URL path length limitations

Whenever I use URLs created in Office 365 Video or OneNote I often hit a wall in path lenght limitations in Sharepoint.

An example, when trying to add a URL via link to document in a library I cannot do so since the URL is limited to 265 character. The link to the video itself is longer than that and since I cannot omit the https:// there is no way for me to shorten the URL.

This does also happen with links from OneNote, but you can kind of workaround this by shortening the headlines (not ideal).

Since Microsoft itself creates longer links than Sharepoint currently allows, is this something being looked into?

Or is there a simple workaround?
