Timeline View

I have come across the new Timeline view on the web version of Microsoft Tasks by Planner. 

I started the free trial this morning but don't see any benefit to it as of yet? I assumed it would automatically create a timeline/gantt chart view of the tasks in my planner?? 

Can anyone talk me through the use and application of this feature?

I think many of the comments about Project are confusing and do not distinguish between the THREE different products:
1. Planner or Tasks by Planner or Tasks (included and integrated with Teams)
2. Project for the Web - a nice basic tool, this is what Planner should be by default. Instead it is an additional paid license for timeline view and dependencies
Project - the workstation-based application, the great grandparent of project planning software. This is the Pro tool
