mark emails with colour manually (like in thunderbird)
- Dec 14, 2022I made this video for you - https://www.screencast.com/t/xcmNLLzcm5XI - first part shows how to get categories working - a non-macro method and a using a macro - the end shows how to do conditional formatting.
The macro I used is here - https://www.slipstick.com/outlook/outlook-categories-flags-and-imap-accounts/
ok, so I went through your links.
- conditional formatting is not for me, as I would like to have this done manually. to change colour where I need, quickly with one button, and remove colour quickly with another button.
- Create and assign color categories, I even does not have such option.
I have edited my ribbon and added it, but it's grey and unusable, can't click any of those
You're using imap? Categories are not supported in imap, but it is possible to use them - you need to use a macro though. (I have more information here - Outlook Categories, Flags, and IMAP Accounts (slipstick.com))
If categories worked, the condition for formatting could be 'has category" - the formatting would make it easier to see since the category color is so tiny.
As soon as I assigned the category, the font attributes changed (FWIW, I only use the unreadable colors in screenshots.<g>)

I'm trying to follow up this guide, but nowhere to find colour categories options.
I'm using outlook 365.- krolwioskiDec 14, 2022Copper Contributor
basically something like on your screenshots would be more than perfect.
