Cleaning outlook storage but unable to log into web app

Hello there!

There is an E5 user that no longer requires such license, so we decide to change his license to Business Standard. However, since his mailbox storage was already 100GB+, we need to clean his storage in mailbox before changing the license.

Now, the user has cleaned as mush as he can and we are seeing 46GB used in the Mailbox. We suspect it is the group conversations that taking up so much space. The user is using Mac, so he needs to set up "Don't receive group messages" in the web app. However, the user has tried many times logging in outlook web, he is seeing 500 error code. 


We tried reducing this administrator roles from 70+ to 50+, but the user still could not log in. Please can somebody help?
