Calendar + Error Report

when I pay a bill or get an advisement about an upcoming appointment in MS Outlook, I will 'drag' to my calendar and make note what I need to know or keep track of.  I recently did an App update via instruction on Mac. Now, when I 'drag' an email into calendar, Outlook closes and I get the following error reporting message:  what' gives?

Microsoft Error Reporting log version: 2.0

Error Signature:

Exception: EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION

Since this started after the update and happens when you drag an email into Calendar, it may be a regression in Outlook for Mac. EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION identifies a type of crash, but that line alone does not identify the cause or mean your Mac’s hardware is faulty.

    Try these steps:

    1. Open Help > Check for Updates in Outlook and install any newer build available. Quit and reopen Outlook afterward.
    2. Test with a simple email containing only text and no attachments. If that also crashes when dragged into Calendar, the problem is likely with the operation itself. If only one particular message causes it, its content may be the trigger.
    3. Until it is fixed, create an event directly in Calendar and copy the relevant email text into the event’s notes. This avoids the drag operation while letting you keep tracking bills and appointments.

Report the crash through Help > Contact Support, if available. Include your Outlook version from Outlook > About Outlook, your macOS version, and whether the plain-text test also crashes. Provide the full crash report privately if support requests it; the exception line alone is not enough to diagnose the failure.

Avoid deleting your Outlook profile or reinstalling repeatedly at this stage, especially if you have messages stored under On My Computer. A reproducible crash after an update needs investigation before risking local data.

  • After the update, issues appeared. My suggestion is to reinstall (to fix possible errors during the update). If that doesn't work, I suggest reinstalling completely (remove and install).
