Blocked Makros in embedded Excel Document

Copper Contributor

Hi Community,

I found a few threads regarding this Topic, but couldn´t find a satisfying solution for this.

The Problem:

So in our Company we publish official Power Point documents through our Intranet ( which is marked as a trusted Location via GPO ) and some of these PP-documents have embedded Excel Documents with macros in it. And those macros are getting blocked even when moving the Powerpoint to the user share which is too marked as a Trusted Location.

So my question is, where does Office / Powerpoint temporarily store the embedded Excel document so I can mark that Location as trusted? I tried adding "%Userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft", but that too wasn`t working.

Thank you in advance.

Kind Regards,

Marvin

Hi @Maori999,

You can try to use %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\Content.MSO\ as a path, it contains temporary files stored by MSO applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

How you can add the Temporary Folder Location:

  • In the Trust Center window, select "Trusted Locations" on the left.
  • Click on "Add new location..."
  • In the "Path" field, enter the following temporary folder location:

    %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\Content.MSO\

  • Give this trusted location a name, such as "Temporary Office Embedded Content," just for the reference.
  • Save (apply) changes and close the Trust Center settings.
  • Close and reopen the PowerPoint or Excel document containing the embedded Excel file with macros.
