Can I go back to Tasks?

Long story short, this unwelcomed, inconvenient, and unannounced switching of my tasks to the todo list has ruined my life (and I do not trust that I won't miss deadlines because where's my stuff?!!)...

jkott, I figured it out. Navigate to File >> Options >> Tasks.
uncheck "Open tasks in the To Do app"

My hunch is folks are running different versions of Outlook, thus the difference in screens.

Try this and see if it works.

How can I switch from Microsoft To Do app to Outlook tasks? - Microsoft Community

My Options screen looks similar to yours and this worked for me.
