Event Ended
Tuesday, Jul 25, 2023, 10:00 AM PDTEvent details
Microsoft Syntex is content management for the AI era. Syntex brings together advanced AI, automation, and management to the business processes at the center of every organization. For this AMA, we'll spotlight recent Microsoft Syntex innovations that protect your mission-critical content at the speed and scale you need to keep your business running, and that securely store your inactive and aging content longer term. We hope this AMA helps answer any questions you have around new powerful content lifecycle capabilities, content management, IT cost management, or anything else top of mind.
An AMA is a live text-based online event similar to an “Ask Me Anything” on Reddit. This AMA gives you the opportunity to connect with Microsoft product experts who will be on hand to answer your questions and listen to feedback. Feel free to post your questions about Viva Glint anytime in the comments below beforehand, if it fits your schedule or time zone better, though questions will not be answered until the live session.

That’s a wrap! Thank you for joining our Microsoft Syntex AMA today! We appreciate all the great questions and hope you learned something new! I'll be locking this event to new questions, but our experts will still be able to respond to any unanswered questions. Stay tuned for more Microsoft Syntex news!

- Mario_FulanIron ContributorComment - I really like the new feature to specify if modified files in a library should be reprocessed by Syntex. Nice addition.
- Mario_FulanIron ContributorIs it possible to save Syntex model application using site templates? For example, we want all new sites created with xxxx template to have a library with a specific Syntex model applied. I know I can use script to do this, but when I save the site as a template is this action captured? (sorry - I know I can try this to find out but thought since it is "Ask Microsoft Anything" ...
- spucelik
Microsoft
The only option is to have a post site creation process using PowerShell add the model to the create site. Having it included in the site template is not supported.- Mario_FulanIron ContributorThat's what I thought and what I am doing. Appreciate the confirmation Steve.
- Benoit_FournierSteel ContributorAny update on e-signature? When will it be available, how will it be priced?
- SandyH10
Microsoft
Hi Benoit! We are accepting customers for Private Preview for US based customer for now- no pricing info available currently Please visit our interest form https://aka.ms/ODSPSecurityPreviews
- Mario_FulanIron ContributorIs there any way to "extend" the prebuilt models to add additional fields? I assume the answer is "no", but there are a couple of cases I am working on where my documents have a couple fields that are not in the prebuilt. I can use document understanding to augment or create a whole new custom model but was wondering if there is an easier option.

Hi Mario - We have that on our product backlog as a future capability, but no dates to offer at this time. The options you're looking at would be the way to go for now.- lauriellis

On a related note, if there are other types of prebuilt models that you're seeing demand for that you'd like to see added to Syntex, let us know. 🙂 https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ai-services/document-intelligence/concept-model-overview?view=doc-intel-3.0.0&viewFallbackFrom=form-recog-3.0.0
- Mario_FulanIron ContributorChanging subjects a bit. Are there any "certifications" for Syntex (sales or tech) available? If so, what is the best way to prepare for those?
- spucelik
Microsoft
There is a learning path available in addition to docs.microsoft.com. Nothing official at this time. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/modules/syntex-intro/- Mario_FulanIron ContributorThanks Steve. I've gone through the learning path (and it just keeps getting better - thanks Microsoft), but didn't see any certifications or official badges yet. Just wondering as I'm interested as are some of my colleagues.
- Mario_FulanIron ContributorSyntex annotations has a couple limitations I was wondering about. First, it seems to only work on PDFs and perhaps png, jpg, etc. Any plans to extend to Office documents to annotate without changing the record status? Second, you can use pen and ink but doesn't seem you can use text from a keyboard or do "redaction". Any plans for those features in the future?

Great suggestion from Steve below, just note that is custom and not supported by Microsoft (so you can't call support and say "Hey, I'm using this Power Automate annotations thing Steve Pucelik posted in the forums and something isn't working..." 🙂- Mario_FulanIron ContributorUnderstood 🙂 This at least provides an option and starting point.
- spucelik

As an interim (non-supported) solution for redaction, here is a Power Automate solution. https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Power-Automate-Community-Blog/Redact-sensitive-information-in-a-document/ba-p/1946435

Hi Mario! We support annotation on .ai, .dwg, .epub, .pdf, .rtf, and .tif at the moment. We'll add more formats, the team is looking at Office, I don't have a timeline I can announce yet. We're also adding text, first will be using comments and pinning those. Actual graphical text on top of the file is on the backlog. We do plan to add redaction in the future, but don't have a timeline for you, on the backlog as well. Stay tuned to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap site for more announcements here (for instance, news coming soon on PDF merge/split, which isn't annotation, but another viewer-related feature).

Thank you for attending our AMA session. I am a Content Services Global Black Belt with a passion for AI Automation and document management. Please post any question to this panel of experts.
- Mario_FulanIron ContributorCan you explain the overlap between per user and PayGO? It looks like I must choose one or the other, but if I already have per user licensing is there any features I miss by not choosing PayGo or can I continue to use per user and add additional licenses as needed? Any good documentation on transitioning?
- IanStory
Microsoft
Hi Mario!
We have just rolled out a fix to allow a tenant with seat licenses to also use pay-as-you-go. This way a seat licensed user can keep doing what they've been doing, and a non-seat-licensed user in the same tenant can use the pay-as-you-go features as well.
Generally speaking, the seat license conveys features like content query, universal annotation, our solutions templates for contracts and accounts payable, etc. which are not available in a pay-as-you-go basis (we're not going to charge you for each query or each inch of ink that you annotate - lol). And yes, you can still add seats to an existing seat-licensed deployment through the usual "true up" process with our folks in the field.
The overlap between pay-as-you-go and the seat are specifically these features:
- Unstructured document processing
- Prebuilt document processing
Both of those can be used either via the seat or pay-as-you-go. We are working on adding structured document processing to be pay-as-you-go in the upcoming months (until then, you use AI Builder credits for it as usual). We are also rolling out content assembly as pay-as-you-go, so like the ones listed above, you can use that as needed pay-as-you-go without the seat.
New features like image tagging, taxonomy tagging, translation and more will launch exclusively as pay-as-you-go, stay tuned for those! Generally we're trying to provide as much flexibility as we can!
- Mario_FulanIron ContributorVery helpful. I felt like my client was "stuck" between two options. This is very helpful information Ian.
- Mario_FulanIron ContributorWondering if I have this correctly. It looks like I can't use the same content twice in an AI Builder model. For example, I need to pull the start date for a lease which is in the document and I also need the rent commence date which is sometimes different and sometimes the same date (simply states that it commences at start of lease but no date given). When I am training, I can't label the same start date for 2 fields, correct?
- spucelik
Microsoft
Correct, AI Builder models support mapping content to 1 field type. If you create a new collection and add the same document, AI Builder recognizes that the document already exists in the model.- Mario_FulanIron ContributorThanks Steve. What I am doing today is using a little power automate logic to modify the 2nd field to default to the value of the first if it is empty which works fine. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't making it harder on myself for no reason.
