Adding owners in Teams - becomes members as well

Copper Contributor

Hi Microsoft Community,

I am asking on behalf of one of our schools. The issue is regarding Teams.

The IT-responsible creates a new new team and wishes to add other owners so they can manage that specific team. According to her she does the following to add owners to the team.

1. She adds owners manually

2. All of the sudden the manually added owners are all of the sudden members as well

Which is conflicting with them both beeing members and owners at the same time.

Anybody who has a clue to what to do? Are there any settings we need to change?

Thanks,

Katrine Hviid - admin for the school's office 365 domain.

This is the expected behavior, each Owner of a Team/Group is also added as member. Back in the day (before 2020 IIRC), it was possible to have an owner who is not a member, but Microsoft since changed the behavior. So every owner will also be listed as a member of the team, and any regular channels therein. They will not however be auto-added to private/shared channels.

@VasilMichev thanks for the reply. However we don't understand why the teachers can't have owner rights at the same time. Is that a bug or?
