Since the Microsoft 365 Copilot official launch a year and a half ago, Microsoft has established the world's most extensive AI feedback loop. We receive insights from organizations of all sizes, across industries and regions. Not only do these insights power continuous improvement of our services, but they enable us to develop the right metrics and insights to help you drive continued success.

Today, we're excited to announce the general availability of the AI adoption score report in the Microsoft 365 admin center.1 The AI adoption score is a simple and effective way to measure your organization's adoption of Microsoft 365 Copilot and compare your adoption with other organizations like yours.

Understanding how Microsoft 365 Copilot is being adopted within your organization is crucial for maximizing its benefits. By tracking usage patterns, gathering feedback from users, and analyzing feature adoption metrics, you can gain valuable insights into how effectively Copilot is being utilized. The AI adoption score and supporting metrics and resources can help you identify areas for improvement, tailor training programs, and ensure that your team is leveraging Copilot to its fullest potential.

How is the AI adoption score calculated?

AI adoption score measures the extent to which Microsoft 365 Copilot, including AI features in M365 apps, Copilot Chat and agents, is leveraged by people in your organization. It provides a meaningful heuristic to gauge the extent to which people in your organization are making Microsoft 365 Copilot an integral part of their daily work.

The scoring model is built on a simple yet powerful insight: when users engage with Microsoft 365 Copilot for 3 or more days per week, they naturally develop a lasting habit. Picture this: a user starts incorporating Copilot into their workflow, using it consistently for three out of five working days each week. Over time, this regular interaction becomes a routine as they integrate Copilot into their daily work. This consistent usage not only converts them into regular users but also increases the likelihood that they will continue using Copilot with the same or even greater frequency in the future.

To reach a score of 100, all enabled users must have reached or exceeded an average of 3 days of usage per week over the past 28-day period. If your score is 50, for example, that means that the enabled users in your organization used Copilot 1.5 days per week on average.
