Display 2 survey results in one chart

Copper Contributor

I have been trying to figure this out for hours, so I hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.

I have survey results from 2 different years. Same questions and format. The raw data are contained in 2 separate spreadsheets. I can create charts for each of them but do not know how to display them in one chart. Simple terms, step by step. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Step 1: create a chart based on the data on one of the sheets. It does not matter which one you choose.

Step 2: click in the newly selected chart and if necessary activate the 'Chart Design' tab of the ribbon.

Step 3: In the Data group of this tab, click Select Data.

Step 4: Under 'Legend entries (series)', click Add.

Step 5: Click in the 'Series name box'. Enter a name for the new series, or select a cell that contains the name.

Step 6a: Only if your chart is an XY Scatter chart: click on the 'Series X values' box. Activate the other sheet and select the x-values range on that sheet. Click in the 'Series Y' values box. Clear its contents and select the y-values range.

Step 6b: For all other chart types: click in the 'Series values' box. Clear its contents, then activate the other sheet and select the y-values range.

Step 7: Click OK to close the Edit Series dialog

Step 8: Click OK to close the Select Data dialog.

Thank you for your reply. I tried and I guess it's too complicated for my skill level. Would need screenshots.

Which type of chart are you trying to create: a column chart, bar chart, line chart, XY scatter chart, ...?

I was able to do it. Thanks again.
