Top Feedback Summary for January 27
Note: This is no longer the most recent top feedback summary. You can always find the latest at https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback.
Why, hello, Insiders! Welcome to the last Top Feedback update for January! We are closing out several items and moving one to next month. Let’s jump right in!
First up, we’re moving Bring the tab preview feature from the current version of Microsoft Edge from Planned for January to February. We continue to listen to user feedback around this and encourage you to jump into the discussion thread to share your thoughts if you haven’t already!
There are three things we’re closing out as Addressed today! Enable customers to pin sites to Start Menu in Windows should be available for all users in all channels now. To pin your favorite website to the Start menu, head to the … menu > More tools > Pin to Start. Support two-page layout in PDF reader is something that we’ve been tracking as a part of our PDF Roadmap and are super excited to mark as Addressed for our frequent readers of PDFs. Lastly, Enable vertical tabs feature is being closed out thanks to its availability to everyone using our Canary and Dev channels (under controlled feature roll-out).
That’s it for this week’s items, we’ll be back next week!

- ethanmenzelIron ContributorJust found out on the latest edge Canary build that came out today that you can right-click and pin tabs as (I think) the alternative to set aside tabs. I've tested it out and it works. may not be finished yet but It's getting better. (Also I think they are using the pinned icon too much)
- ethanmenzelIron ContributorYes, and I love it!! ❤️

That's not an alternative to Set Aside Tabs, it's its own separate feature that's part of every major browser and was already part of Edge.
- ethanmenzelIron ContributorAgree It should not be an alternative to tab set aside

I would really like to know what the planned alternative to set tabs aside is.
- ethanmenzelIron ContributorI finally found the need for it and really wish they had it. For anyone who is confused it's for those tabs that you just do not want to close in order to close the browser

I know you can add all tabs to a collection; this was introduced almost a year ago, but the status of "Bring the tab set aside feature from the current version of Microsoft Edge" was updated to "Alternative planned" in November 2020, so Microsoft must be planning something more.
The current implementation of collections cannot replace set tabs aside because:
- The history for each tab is not saved in Collections. When I restore set aside tabs in Edge Legacy, I can use the back and forward buttons to go back to the next or previous page; this is not possible with Collections.
- Set tabs aside also saves the position on the page. This, and saving the history for each tab, means set tabs aside can be used to restore the browser to a previous state, as if the tabs were never closed; this cannot be done with collections.
- It takes many more clicks to achieve what Set Tabs Aside does with Collections. Setting tabs aside not only saves the tabs, but also closes them with just one click, making it easy to move onto another task in an uncluttered browser. It also restores the tabs and removes them from set aside tabs with just one click, making it easy to resume a task and removing the need to remember to delete tabs when the task is done.
Another thing which reduces the number of clicks needed is that with Edge Legacy, you can scroll sideways in a group of tabs set aside to see more tabs; with Collections in Chromium Edge, you have to open a collection to see more tabs, and then click a button to return to the list of collections to check another collection.
- Thanks for the update, the top feedback list is getting smaller and smaller 🙂
would love to see this page updated with new upcoming stuff
