Just found out on the latest edge Canary build that came out today that you can right-click and pin tabs as (I think) the alternative to set aside tabs. I've tested it out and it works. may not be finished yet but It's getting better. (Also I think they are using the pinned icon too much)
That's not an alternative to Set Aside Tabs, it's its own separate feature that's part of every major browser and was already part of Edge.
