Option to completely remove Microsoft News Feed
I understand there may be reason higher up the corporate ladder for wanting the inclusion of the Microsoft News Feed permanently in one way or another but please add an option to completely remove the bar at the bottom of the new tab page. It's ugly and obtrusive and ultimately kind of ruins the idea of the 'Inspirational' or 'Focused' layout being what they are describing. The News Feed is the Number one reason for the people I know refusing the switch to Old Edge. It will cripple the initial adoption of New Edge when it eventually released to market.

Go to edge://flags/#use-edge-local-ntp and choose Enabled. All fixed.

You can do those as well.
On the new tab page right click the fav bar to disable it.
You can also set the search engine in the settings under privacy and services>address bar>manages search engines.

jhoff80 That doesn't completely solve the problem because while it gets rid of the feed nonsense it also locks it to focused mode with no option for insparational. In addition to that a basic function like this should really be selectable normally and not require tinkering in the backend of the settings. This needs fixing by Microsoft before the browser goes live if they want it to have any chance vs Chrome/Firefox.
NB: Writing this I noticed there's no spell checker working in Edge yet, that needs fixing too lol.
- SD777Iron ContributorI like the new tab page except that it forces me to have a favorites bar at the top, even when I checked this to be off in settings for the browser itself. Can we have the option to have a new tab page without the favorites bar?
- Cameron_BushSteel Contributor
SD777 The Favourites Bar can be removed in the Edge Dev branch and higher.
Settings > Appearance > Show favourites bar
Just turn that toggle off and voila, no favourites bar.

Even checking that off the favorites bar still persists in the new tab windows, this is actually the same as it was in the old MS Edge and just was really annoying.
I've never been thrilled with the new tab page and was hoping MS would revamp it. Forced favorites bar, forced Bing search, you can't darken the page with extensions like Dark Reader, etc.
- Elliot KirkMicrosoftThank you for the feedback Cameron_Bush! I have sent it along to the owners of the new tab page.

This is the reason that I joined this channel - The first thing I did after downloading the MS insider Edge is to find the option to turn the News feed completely off, and to my disappointment, the option does NOT exist. I clicked on the toggle button, and I could only choose between "on scroll" and "always". ☹

To repeat, Bing.com will do, does do what you want. To have New tab page be the use the one from the Chrome store I recommended. When I not on my mobile 📱 and back at my machine I will get you the name, soon. I have the set up you desire in use as we speak. Give it a try.
It is Infinite Dashboard
Cheers,
Drew.
- IllusionMHCopper ContributorAre there any new on this?

Elliot Kirk although I agree with OP that users should have an option to remove the news feed completely under Custom, please let the new tab devs know at least one user is very satisfied. People usually only bother to post complaints, but I LOVE the Edge Dev new tab Inspirational layout. It's one of several key features that inspire me to keep Edge Dev as my default browser—even in it's unfinished state.
I never scroll down to look at the news feed because I prefer Microsoft News app and reddit, but the Personalized news button is discreet enough that it doesn't bother me.

I don't know when or if the default New tab page will be all that people want or prefer. And, sure, one can say it is sad to have to use an extension to have what one wants. Some want a feed, some don't, some want a blank page, heaps variations, some possible, some aren't, at least now right now. HOWEVER, if an extension is not viewed as something terrible, THIS will give or do all anyone would want and more (cool choices) they hadn't, even, imagined. I urge y'all to take time to look at it. You might well like it. I know I sure do!
Cheers,
Drew

Cameron_Bush Agree. Should be a way for people to fully, 100% disable news suggestions. No scroll, nothing - just a new tab page with top/recent sites visited.
Hi,
Update, the option is now added:
Edge insider Version 79.0.287.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit)
- KoshyGIron Contributor
Coudn't agree more, there should be an option to remove it.
- Drew1903Silver ContributorThere IS a remedy for this. Make Bing.com your Startup page. It CAN BE want you want, NO Feeds period, NO whatever you don't want, menu bar, picture, it's all up to you. Could turn photo off, as well, but, anyway, here's an example. It IS what you are wanting. Personally, wanting the same as y'all, this IS, indeed, what I use, myself, except, usually with the Menu bar, circled in red, shut off. For Feeds, this isn't Off, with scrolling... this is Off & GONE.

Cameron_Bush this feature is now directly under the task bar widget within the beta version of Windows, and though you can turn the widget off, if you go to website and look at your feed, there is not an option to tell microsoft not to suggest or offer stories / articles, however you can hide publishers. Though you have the option to add your own publishers you are interested in from here: Microsoft News (msn.com) - You are still bombarded with what ever the algorithms used by Microsoft think is "For you" .
Honestly, the weather and need to know like local school closing, road closures and things like that are all I want. Unfortunately, I did not see my local govdelivery sites listed and I am not interested in mainstream national and world publishers, but I do not have a choice. Cool software and gadgets, and looks like they work, but the content is garbage and not really relavent "For me"
Looks like this is a good place for this topic and though there is a way to disable where your newsfeed appears, it still has a persona and builds a feed if ever you open anything that uses that Microsoft News Feed API. Only gives the illusion it is gone, sorry.- Cameron_BushSteel Contributor
alignedfibers I know. This was fixed ages ago. This is a 2 year old post from Edge Beta...
- Bennie54Copper ContributorMicrosoft only cares about money and not about their customers. They have a take it or leave policy.
- dftf-wipIron ContributorI wish I could just turn the "new tab page" off entirely, and just have a blank page load... I only go to the new tab page currently to see my Favourites Bar (as I prefer not to use "Always shown") and it's a pain having to wait for it to load just to access a favourite. It's mad Internet Explorer let users pick what the new tab button would go to, but Edge doesn't...

Yup, Cameron_Bush. I think that having more options to choose your experience is always better. Especially when it takes a bit of time to render that extra tid bit or the code that will be rendering those news articles when you scroll down. Every little bit adds the the time and responsiveness and it makes the experience better when everyone has a choice of what they want.
