MicrosoftDev channel update to 94.0.972.0 is live
Hello Insiders! Today we’re releasing build 94.0.972.0 to the Dev channel. As you can see, this is the first build from version 94, and as such, we’ve got lots of exciting things to share!
Added features:
- Added a second row of Top Sites on the New Tab Page.
- Enabled the new Spellcheck experience on Mac.
- Added management policies (note that updates to documentation and administrative templates may not have happened yet):
- To control if WAM Auth on versions Below Win 10 RS3 is Enabled.
- To control the Primary Password Setting, which controls if device authentication is required before autofilling a password in a webpage.
- To control if the Password Generator is Enabled.
- To control if Transparent Ad Providers are Enabled, which controls the blocking of certain trackers with Tracking Prevention.
- To control if the setting to Open Microsoft Links In Edge is Enabled.
- Improved the sign-in dialog when signing into the browser.
- Added support for full-page screenshots and InPrivate authentication via Face ID on iOS.
Improved reliability:
- Fixed a crash on launch.
- Fixed an issue where PWAs or websites installed as apps sometimes crash after an OS upgrade.
- Fixed an issue on Mac where a webpage crash can sometimes also cause a browser crash.
- Fixed an issue where interacting with PDFs sometimes causes the browser to freeze or crash.
- Fixed a crash when playing videos.
Changed behavior:
- Fixed an issue where pinned tabs are sometimes duplicated after restoring the previous session.
- Fixed an issue where the Import Browser Data popup in Settings sometimes doesn’t appear or work.
- Fixed an issue where themes sometimes become broken or uninstalled after the browser updates.
- Fixed an issue where printing a PDF multiple times sometimes fails.
- Fixed an issue where Office files sometimes fail to download with a SERVER_FORBIDDEN error.
- Fixed an issue where some passwords in Password Settings don’t have an option to change them.
- Fixed an issue where WebView2 applications fail to open on Windows 11.
- Fixed an issue where WebView2 applications sometimes fail to authenticate with an ERR_SSL_CLIENT_AUTH_CERT_NEEDED error.
- Fixed an issue with vertical tabs where all tabs sometimes become invisible.
- Fixed an issue where Favorites in Application Guard windows sometimes are corrupted.
- Fixed an issue where User Initiated Autofill doesn’t work in multi-line text boxes.
- Fixed an issue where MHT files sometimes don’t open properly.
- Fixed an issue where spellcheck suggestions sometimes don’t appear.
- Fixed an issue on Linux where SmartCopy doesn’t appear to work because the buttons that appear to copy captured content don’t work.
Known issues:
- Users of certain ad blocking extensions may experience playback errors on Youtube. As a workaround, temporarily disabling the extension should allow playback to proceed. See this help article for more details.
- Some users are still running into an issue where all tabs and extensions immediately crash with a STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH error. The most common cause of this error is outdated security or antivirus software from vendors like Symantec, and in those cases, updating that software will fix it.
- Users of the Kaspersky Internet Suite who have the associated extension installed may sometimes see webpages like Gmail fail to load. This failure is due to the main Kaspersky software being out of date, and is thus fixed by making sure the latest version is installed.
- Some users are still seeing favorites get duplicated. This issue should be reduced now that automatic deduplication has been introduced into Insider channels, but we’re still rolling that out in Stable. We’ve also seen duplication happen when running the manual deduplicator on multiple machines before either machine has a chance to fully sync its changes, so make sure to leave plenty of time in between runs of the deduplicator.
- Some users are seeing “wobbling” behavior when scrolling using trackpad gestures or touchscreens, where scrolling in one dimension also causes the page to subtly scroll back and forth in the other. Note that this only affects certain websites and seems to be worse on certain devices. This is most likely related to our ongoing work to bring scrolling back to parity with Edge Legacy’s behavior, so if this behavior is undesirable, you can temporarily turn it off by disabling the edge://flags/#edge-experimental-scrolling flag.

- I cannot find any button about full-page screenshots on my iPhone...
- josh_bodner there is an issue where none of the menu items in edge browser renders in display in windows 11. This includes right click menu, triple dot menu bar, any option box in web page, extension options etc. Only the display is not being rendered, these menu items infact do open (without being displayed). Even feedback page doesn't render so can't even raise the feedback while this is happening. Completely closing all windows of Edge and starting Edge again fixes this.
- josh_bodnerWhat version number of Windows 11 and Edge are you seeing that in, and is there anything specific you can do to trigger that behavior?

I have seen it usually happen in morning, after waking up from sleep, but this isn't consistent. For instance now its working as expected. I am yet to find the exact trigger for this.
Is there anyway I can capture logs or any other form of information when it happens? The feedback popup does not render as well during the issue.
josh_bodner I'm noticing that WebGL isn't able to deal with HiDPI in Windows in Edge. It renders at some resolution and then scales it up, to 150% in my case.
Example from Onshape:
This isn't exclusive to Edge (or Chrome). Firefox does it, too. I still have another display, that runs at 100%, maybe there's some conflict there (it gets replaced, soon). But everything else works properly, when on the HiDPI display, so WebGL ought to, too.
--edit: I put all displays to 150% and restarted Edge, it's still blurry. So yeah, WebGL can't do HiDPI yet.
--edit: Please disregard. This appears to be an issue from Onshape's side. It's supposed to detect HiDPI monitors and adjust properly, but apparently doesn't (and falls back to 96DPI or something). Fortunately there's a setting to override it in their account settings, now everything is rendered sharp at native resolution.
- Like you guys brought Mica material to windows 11, please bring acrylic material to windows 10 too.
- I hope they bring the transparent effect on the MacOS version too, it would be awesome!
- Sometimes I feel like I should learn programming and do it on my own, as they hardly respond to these gui related requests. 🤣🤣🤣
- So I have an issue where my banking website no longer works in edge 93/94 on either desktop or Android. I've submitted multiple feedback submissions across the development period but no one from the edge team has reached out to me. My banking website works fine in edge 92, and works fine in chrome 93/94. I'm really concerned you're going to push 93 to public and it's not fixed. Who do I talk to about it getting fixed?
- josh_bodnerWhen you say it's not working, what exactly are you seeing? Is it failing to load? Not letting you log in? Missing some UI?
- What happened to the 94.0.972.0-1 deb package? It's not there anymore.

- I haven't get this version. Maybe on midnight.
- Could it be that startup boost is not working properly in 94.0.972.0? Usually a couple of msedge.exe processes keep running when Edge is closed and startup boost enabled. This is not longer the case for me, even after cycling the startup boost setting.
Strange but I'm unable to update to this build on 2 different PCs. One running Windows 10, the other running Windows 11. When I go to the Settings --> About page, the system checks for updates but then says Microsoft Edge is up to date.
I'm running the previous Dev channel build on both: Version 93.0.961.10
