Summary of the issue:

When importing more than an RDP file at once, often the app crashes.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Export at least two RDP connections to a folder by selecting them in the PCs panel and selecting "Connections" -> "Export to RDP file…".
  2. Import the exported connections all at once using "Connections" -> "Import from RDP file…" and selecting all of them in the file chooser window.
  3. At the end of the import process, the app crashes.

Additional details:

  • It seems to me that the bug hits more frequently using a large number of connections (RDP files). Let's say, more than ten.
  • I've been able to reproduce the issue only starting with an empty PCs view.
  • Even if the app crashes, it seems that the connections are correctly imported (i.e. after reopening the app, the imported connections are there).

Software versions:

– Microsoft Remote Desktop Beta 10.7.5 (1969)

– macOS Monterey 12.2 (21D49)

Hi @draykan ,

Do you have a custom PC groups? Can you also provide a sample RDP file that is causing the issue?

Thanks!

Hi @js351,

no, I'm not using PC groups since in my testing the bug is reproducible only starting with an empty PCs view.

However, I nailed down the issue to these simple steps that always trigger the crash:

  1. Open Microsoft Remote Desktop Beta and delete all the PC connections to have an empty PCs view.
  2. Click the "+" (plus) symbol --> "Add PC".
  3. In the "PC name" field, type "1" and click the "Add" button.
  4. Click the "+" (plus) symbol --> "Add PC".
  5. In the "PC name" field, type "test" and click the "Add" button.
  6. Export the two PC connections to a folder.
  7. Delete the two PC connections from Microsoft Remote Desktop Beta.
  8. Import the two PC connections with the "Import from RDP file…" menu (make sure that you select both the connections in the file chooser window).
  9. Microsoft Remote Desktop Beta crashes.

I can provide a video and many crash reports if needed.
