Allow copy and paste directly to local desktop

Hello Microsoft

I came across an issue , where the user wanted to copy and paste a file from their AVD session desktop to their local desktop on their computer. However the paste option was not grayed out(not available), due to microsoft not supporting it. I would like to have this option available for them rather than having drive redirection enabled and having them go to the c drive users\desktop and then pasting the file.

Please implement the option to copy/paste files DIRECTLY onto their local desktop for future AVD updates/implementations

Description:
When using Azure Virtual Desktop through the Windows App (especially in windowed mode), Alt+PageUp and Alt+PageDown are the only supported shortcuts for switching between remote applications.

The direction of these shortcuts is opposite of intuitive and inconsistent with common task‑switching expectations (Alt+Tab, browser tab switching, virtual desktop navigation, etc.).

There is currently no way to:

remap these shortcuts
reverse the navigation direction
customize keyboard behavior per user

This significantly impacts usability for power users who spend all day inside AVD sessions.

Requested enhancement:
Add a configurable keyboard mapping option in the Windows App to:

swap Alt+PageUp / Alt+PageDown direction
or allow user‑defined key mappings for remote app switching

Why this matters:

Reduces cognitive friction and user error
Improves accessibility and ergonomics
Brings Windows App closer to parity with legacy mstsc.exe and competing VDI clients (e.g., Citrix)

Workarounds today:
Users must rely on third‑party tools (AutoHotkey) to fix this locally, which should not be required for a basic UX issue.

1.0.13514.600 and 1.0.13229.200, same vnet, subnet, keyvault, domain OU's. Can this be fixed before Agent version 1.0.13805.400 gets moved into Production?

AVD Federation with external identities

Spent months figuring out why federated SSO breaks for external users accessing Azure Virtual Desktop. Turns out Azure AD ignores custom federation when the user's domain is verified elsewhere—forces B2B routing, kills Windows SSO.

Built a workaround using proxy domains and a federation hub.

Curious—how are others solving this? Or just telling customers SSO isn't possible? I can't find any roadmap agenda.

Enable Single Sign-On for Windows App under Proxy Environment with Entra Connect Users

We are using Azure Virtual Desktop and, due to our security policy, we run Windows App under a proxy environment. Currently, when signing in to Windows App in this environment, Single Sign-On (SSO) does not work for users connected via Entra Connect.

Could you please update the specifications so that these users can sign in with SSO when using Windows App under a proxy?

For reference, in the Remote Desktop Client app, SSO works correctly after pressing the Register button. We would like to see similar functionality in Windows App.

Microsoft AVD Client Support for Teams camera backgrounds

We are using Dell thin clients running Dell ThinOS. When connected to AVD from those devices using the Microsoft AVD app, camera backgrounds are not available in Teams calls. Please add this feature to future releases of the Microsoft AVD app for Dell ThinOS.

More security around using Custom Script Extensions and Session Host Configuration

We are currently implementing and testing the new Session Host Configuration and Session Host Management features.

We rely on Custom Script Extensions to implement some functionality immediately to the newly deployed Session Hosts instead of waiting for GPOs or other to take effect. We don't add these changes to the golden images.

Currently the Custom Script Extensions functionality definable in the Session Host Configuration only allows to define a script URL.

CSE URL in the Session Host Configuration as seen from the Azure Portal.

What is the intended mechanism of authentication for this solution? Currently it seems that its only possible to use an anonymous access level Blob. Defining a token within the script URL is not great due to the fact that the URL is viewable in plain text via the Azure Portal. Neither of those will satisfy.

CSE configuration by the Session Host Configuration during deployment.

Key vault references are used when defining credentials for domain join and local admin accounts for the Session Hosts. Would it be possible to have key vault references for CSE Storage Account Name/Key or SAS token or the possibility to define a Managed Identity instead.

These can be defined when deploying the CSEs manually.

Available methods of CSE for authentication

Please guide me as to what the best solution would be to this topic.

Add Search to Remote Desktop client for Windows

As an Azure Administrator responsible for managing extensive cloud infrastructure, I rely heavily on this client to access multiple Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments. My current responsibilities involve managing a large and growing pool of AVDs, each providing access to a specific environment (e.g., development, staging, production, or customer-specific resources).

Currently, I have no easy or efficient way to look up the relevant AVD within the client interface. The lack of a search bar forces me to manually scroll through long lists of connection icons and names whenever I need to switch contexts. This process is time-consuming, prone to error, and significantly hinders my productivity, especially during time-sensitive administrative tasks or troubleshooting efforts.

Implementing a simple, functional search bar would drastically improve the user experience for administrators like myself by providing immediate access to the required virtual desktop connection.

Update 'Update-AzWvdSessionHost' cmdlet

Today via the PowerShell cmdlet 'Update-AzWvdSessionHost', an administrator can assign a user to a session host without the user being assigned to the applicationgroup. This can cause some confusion to administrators if they are able to perform this task as the user will not be able to see the host in the Windows App. The suggestion would be to either put in a check which denies the assignment if the user is not associated with the applicationgroup directly or indirectly via group association. Or, update the cmdlet to also add an assignment to the application group by adding a required parameter which would assign the user to the application group.

It's a small tweak but it may help with the overall stability of the Desktop.Virtualization PowerShell stack. Thanks!

Hello. Add a command line with arguments to be able to release frozen folders in FSlogix. If you don't want to fix the problem, let me automate it myself.

In large RDS installations, constant freezes and further duplication of local_%username% folders cause problems.

Problems connecting with the Virtual Desktop

After using this for a month at this point, it suddenly stopped working on itself. It has an error message stating that it needs to "initialize to an empty state" after "a part of the process has locked a portion of the file." There is no way I am aware of that can get an elaboration of what the problem is. I've tried logging in to my virtual desktop on a separate device, but it does not work. Any help or advice would be appreciated since there is no other method (that I'm aware of) that can allow me to contact support.

I would like AVD to support in-place upgrades

I'm using Windows 11 multi-session (23H2) with an AVD.
I'm disappointed that in-place upgrade to 24H2 is not supported.
It's nonsense that the only way to upgrade to 24H2 or 25H2 is to create a new environment from the Marketplace.
No one wants to spend a lot of time creating an environment every year.
Please support in-place upgrades.

Expose AVD registration status on Azure VM objects

In enterprise environments, it's difficult to determine whether a VM is successfully registered with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) without querying the host pool or relying on indirect signals.

Please consider surfacing the AVD registration status (e.g., Registered, Not Registered, Pending) directly on the Azure VM object, accessible via:

Azure Portal
Azure Resource Graph
Azure PowerShell / CLI
REST API

This would simplify automation, monitoring, and remediation workflows across large-scale deployments.

Add the Networking Tab in the Host Pool Creation Wizard in the Azure Portal

Just like we have a Networking tab in the Storage Account where public access can be disabled and private endpoints enabled, there should be a similar option available during Host Pool creation in the Azure Portal. In my customer environment, which is a banking organization, a policy is enforced that does not allow any resource to be created with public access—it blocks the creation outright.

The policy they use is named "Public network access should be disabled for PaaS services", which prevents the creation of a Host Pool unless public access is disabled. Currently, this setting cannot be configured during Host Pool creation in the Azure Portal, as the networking tab is only available after the Host Pool is created, allowing you to disable public access and enable private endpoints. For BFSI customers, requesting a policy relaxation is difficult. While this may be achieved through automation, the option should also be available in the Azure Portal. Otherwise, it creates a contradiction—there is a policy to disable public access, but no way to comply with it during the initial creation.

Load balance AVD connections based on CPU\RAM\IOPS using API

Currently AVD connections load balancing, is based on breadth or depth, and is pretty rigid. Would it be possible to have an API to query, which could use host resource to decide which host is best to connect a newly conning client to.

Windows App - Account Picker During Startup

Windows App is showing additional improvements to the overall VDI experience. As an Architect working for a consulting company, I have multiple clients with AVD environments I have to log into. One of the major benefits of Remote Desktop is that when opening, the window provides visibility to all signed in accounts. With Windows App, when opening the application, I'm in the most recent account. To benefit us that work in multiple environments, allow us the capability to choose which account I want to work in when opening the application. If Windows App only has one account associated, it can default to that account. But if there are two accounts present, allow the user to choose which one they want to go into at the onset.

AVD Hibernate on Azure Local

We're working to deploy AVD on Azure Local to improve performance of our apps. We have a set of users that work infrequently, but have a need to keep their session persistent between "Shifts". In a personal host pool setup, we're finding our current options cost prohibitive with the avd management costs for azure local based deployments. A solution that would allow hibernating the VMs during periods of inactivity would be the best case for our needs.

Unselecting "Use Mac shortcuts..." in settings does not work.

I have my mac keyboard settings set to use ctrl for copy and paste instead of the command key.

No matter what setting I use in the Remote Desktop Client settings, it always passes command through to my virtual machine, whether I press command or ctrl.

I simply want to pass my keyboard press directly through! This is very frustrating and makes using certain features in Visual Studio impossible as the only way to get to them is with a keyboard shortcut.
