We're thrilled to announce the General Availability of Azure API Management's newest pricing tiers – Basic v2 and Standard v2. Trusted by thousands of the world's largest enterprises, Azure API Management is the go-to solution for Azure customers to implement, secure, and scale their API initiatives. At Microsoft, our customers are our top priority, and their feedback guides our innovations. The introduction of these new tiers directly addresses common customer requests, enhancing quality-of-service and enabling businesses of all sizes to leverage API Management effectively.

The Azure API Management v2 tiers represent a significant leap forward, offering a comprehensive range of capabilities tailored to projects of all sizes, from small-scale endeavors to large-scale enterprise applications. To ensure continuity for users, the new v2 tiers are available alongside our existing (classic) Azure API Management tiers, which will remain fully supported.

Now, let's dive into the technical details and explore the key capabilities and enhancements offered by the new tiers:

  • Faster Deployment and Scaling: With Azure API Management Basic v2 and Standard v2, deploy a new, production-ready API Management service instance in minutes. Scale rapidly to meet the fluctuating demands of your API management workloads, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Private Networking: Security is paramount, which is why the Standard v2 tier now supports VNet Integration. This feature enables you to restrict outbound traffic to a single connected VNet, providing peace of mind and safeguarding your APIs against potential threats, especially in scenarios where your API backends are private. Click here for more details.
  • Higher Scale: Our Basic v2 and Standard v2 tiers support up to 10 scale units, representing a remarkable 5X and 2.5X improvement over previous iterations. This enhancement ensures that you can scale your API management operations with confidence, meeting the demands of your growing ecosystem effortlessly.
  • Enhanced Analytics Experience: Gain deeper insights with Azure Monitor-based dashboards, included in the v2 tiers. Benefit from a more efficient implementation that doesn't impact API Management instance capacity. Leverage the full power of Azure Monitor for comprehensive visualization, data collection, and analysis capabilities.

We're committed to expanding the availability of the Basic v2 and Standard v2 tiers to additional regions as we progress further. Keep an eye on Azure Updates, where we will announce each batch of new regions as they become available.

While the feature sets of the v2 and classic tiers overlap, there are some differences documented here.

There's no automated migration process yet from the classic to the v2 tiers.

How would you test Standard v2 network integration features in dev or uat environments? Will you need to deploy Standard v2 to all environments at full cost.
So pricing, keeping with IaC ci/cd with different dev, uat, prd environments, will be Standard v2 cost x3 which again makes this a very expensive solution. So either an oversite or very sneaky sneaky.

Benjiiim yes, updates to the pricing page will go out soon. The categories are going to be like this:

    • Consumption tier
    • Classic tiers : Developer, Basicv1, Standardv1, Premiumv1
    • v2 tiers: Basicv2, Standardv2 and upcoming Premiumv2
  • Great work team!

I do have a question for you.

When reading the pricing page, we can think that Consumption is part of the classic tiers. However, when reading the updated "Choosing the right Azure API Management tier for your networking scenarios" blog post, we see that Consumption is something different, not part of v1 but not part of v2 either.

Are you planning to clarify that at some point in order not to afraid people who are or are planning to rely on the Consumption tier for a more serverless experience?

    Thanks a lot
