Microsoft Build starts May 23rd. Register now to attend virtually.

Microsoft Build, the annual conference where developers can get hands on with the latest Microsoft technologies including Azure, kicks off May 23rd. With generative AI impacting companies of every size and industry, this year’s Build promises exciting new announcements and learning opportunities.

Born in the cloud companies drive disruption with AI

At Microsoft Build, developers will be able to learn about the latest AI technologies, as well as Azure’s reliable, secure, and scalable cloud-native platform. Startups and at-scale companies born in the cloud are at the forefront of the AI-based innovation wave. Using cutting-edge technologies, these companies are disrupting industries. Startups are harnessing the power of generative AI with the Azure OpenAI Service to unlock new customer experiences. DocuSign, for example, creates an AI-generated summary of a contract, extracts key data points, and even allows users to ask questions and get answers quickly, so people can review and sign agreements quickly, and with more confidence. Typeface, a startup that helps companies tell their unique stories faster and easier than ever before, uses Microsoft Azure and Azure OpenAI Service, to provide customers with a seamless experience to craft captivating content across marketing channels while staying true to their distinct brand voice and visual identity. It’s still early days for generative AI and the possibilities are endless as startups use it to create even more compelling use cases that transform the way their customers live and work.

The Build roadmap for born in the cloud companies

Build kicks off on May 23rd at 9am PST with a keynote from Satya Nadella on how Microsoft is creating new opportunities for developers in this new AI era. Next, join Kevin Scott, CTO Microsoft, in “The Era of the AI Copilot” keynote to explore how Microsoft and OpenAI’s full-stack AI platform, fueled by Azure, can empower developers, startups, and entrepreneurs to innovate and develop the next generation of AI apps and tools. Finally, in “Next generation AI for developers with the Microsoft Cloud”, Scott Guthrie, EVP Cloud + AI, discusses how Microsoft is making AI innovation real for developers today with experiences like GitHub Copilot, Azure OpenAI Service, and the Microsoft Cloud platform and tools you need to produce next-gen, AI-infused applications. Here’s the list of top ten breakout sessions I put together to help you get started with building AI-based cloud native applications on Azure. Some of these sessions stream at the same time, but the great thing is, you can catch up with the recordings. Also, this is a list of breakout sessions to help you get started. There are many more awesome discussions and demos where you can learn more. The full list of sessions is available here.

Day 1:

  • Getting started with generative AI using Azure OpenAI Service (May 23, 11.30am-12.15pm PST). Reason to watch: Azure OpenAI is the go-to service to build your generative AI applications on Azure.
  • Building and scaling cloud-native, intelligent applications on Azure (May 23, 1.30-2.15pm PST). Reason to watch: Cloud-native and serverless applications with Azure Container Apps and Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure OpenAI service, and Azure Data – this session brings it all together.
  • State of GPT (May 23, 2.45-3.30pm PST). Reason to watch: Deep dive into building GPT-based applications.
  • Building and using AI models responsibly (May 23, 4-4.45pm PST). Reason to watch: As large language models (LLMs) go mainstream, it is critical to know how to use them safely.
  • Integrating Azure AI and Azure Kubernetes Service to build intelligent apps (May 23, 5.15-6pm PST). Reason to watch: If you are building your AI applications at scale, you’ll need AKS and CI/CD automation with GitHub.

Day 2:

  • Build scalable, cloud-native apps with AKS and Azure Cosmos DB (May 24, 1.30-2.15pm PST). Reason to watch: Along with AKS, Azure Cosmos DB can help you develop high-performance applications with a fully managed and serverless distributed database supporting open-source PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Apache Cassandra. The discussion on "Database capabilities you need for your next awesome app" is also great to tune in to get insight on how other born in the cloud companies are using Cosmos DB at scale.
  • Deliver apps from code to cloud with Azure Kubernetes Service (May 24, 1.30-2.15pm PST). Reason to watch: AKS is foundational to running Kubernetes-based applications on Azure.
  • Inside Azure innovations with Mark Russinovich (May 24, 2.45-3.30pm PST). Reason to watch: Take a tour of the latest innovations in the Azure architecture with Mark Russinovich, CTO and Technical Fellow of Microsoft Azure.
  • Practical deep dive into machine learning techniques and MLOps (May 24, 2.45-3.30pm PST). Reason to watch: Learn how to quickly build, train, and debug your models for faster time to production with the Azure Machine Learning service.
  • Modernizing your applications with containers and serverless (May 24, 4-4.45pm PST). Reason to watch: Foundational session on container and serverless workloads on Azure.

Don’t just build, partner with Microsoft

As we strive to provide best-in-class AI services and a reliable, secure, and scalable cloud-native platform for developers, we also want to partner with startups to help them thrive. We recently introduced the Microsoft for Startups Pegasus Program, which connects growth-stage startups to thousands of Microsoft’s top customers. In pilot, the program has already helped over a hundred startups land enterprise customers. Startups selected as part of Pegasus will receive up to $350,000 in Azure, GitHub and LinkedIn credits plus backing from advisors and access to the best Microsoft technologies.  The program is an extension of the Founders Hub platform that brings people, knowledge, and benefits together to help founders at every stage solve their startup challenges.

Let’s learn and build!

It is truly the era of AI and born in the cloud companies are at the forefront of this wave. Join us at Microsoft Build 2023 and let’s build the future together!
