Nov 02, 2021Top Feedback Summary for October
Greetings, Insiders! Albeit delayed a week, welcome to October’s Top Summary Feedback. We are only closing out one item on this list and have a couple of very special announcements! Let’s jump right into it.
Some of you may have seen news of this elsewhere (depending on your involvement in other social spaces), but like our friends over on Teams, we have launched the preview of Feedback! This new feedback experience allows users to submit their own feedback, browse other public feedback items, and comment on items that they want to share their voice about! We have most of this list already available on the new portal and have seen a few of you already there, commenting and posting your new suggestions.
In what’s being closed out this month, we are marking Allow users to put individual tabs to sleep as Addressed. After a great discussion had by community members in the discussion thread and based on what we heard after last month’s update, we believe we have addressed the concerns around this item. That’s not to say we’ve stopped listening to you about how you prefer to utilize sleeping tabs! Please stop by the discussion thread and tag MissyQ into your comment so she can share directly with the team.
On the subject of hearing you all, it was clear last month that the suggestion of closing out the item related to the autoplay of audio and video would not be sufficient as you do not feel that the feedback is addressed. We understand this, and Sushanth and team hopped into comments last month to chat with some of you and your frustrations that you still have with this. We are continuing to have talks about improvements in this area, and appreciate everyone who spoke up in last month’s update!
A quick update on one item, we are updating the tab set aside feature to reflect that this is a parity feature from Microsoft Edge legacy, rather than referencing “the current version of Microsoft Edge”. This is an effort to be clear on what the feedback is actually about, to help avoid confusion.
Finally, an announcement that we think a few of you will be very excited to see. We have a new playable character in edge://surf for Dev and Canary (Edge 97). Here’s a hint: :penguin:
That is it for this month’s update, friends! The next couple months are holiday heavy, and there’s a chance these updates will either not appear or will be late. We hope you understand as we work to balance what we communicate with you all while adjusting around the well-deserved time off of the team members. Keep an eye out on our Twitter account to see news around our communications this holiday season. See something you think the team needs to be aware of, or want to see something you really want added to the browser on this list? Well, now you can head to the Feedback page to submit feedback to us, or you can continue to send it in via the … menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback. We appreciate everything you do for us!
Here’s this month’s update:

MissyQHi Missy. I tried to post this as a new post, but it says I do not have permisson, hence I'll add it as a comment here.
The "open these pages" setting under "When Microsoft Edge starts" seems to have been broken in a recent update. Even though I have it configured, each launch I only get the "New Tab Page":
This issue has occured on two laptops I use, both running the latest Edge - Stable Channel (the version that comes built-into Windows 10). I don't have a Windows 11 device to test on, and so I can't confirm if the issue is also happening there.
I tried going to Settings > Reset settings and using the "Restore settings to their default values", but this did not resolve the issue. Instead I had to go to Settings > Profiles and then add a new profile, which then made the homepage setting work again correctly.
Can anyone please see if a recent code-change has broken this setting?
Thanks
- MissyQ

dftf-wipWeird that you can't post. I will see if I can figure out what is happening there with the Tech Community team.
Regarding what you are seeing with your settings, we are currently investigating that! We got a report earlier this week, and we're trying to nail it down. If you could help us reproduce this, the data would be massively appreciated. Do you happen to have any clear on exit settings configured here: edge://settings/clearBrowsingDataOnClose ? Another community member I am working with had a few of these set up, so if you do have them enabled turn those off and let me know if it still decides to open on the new page. If it works as intended, go ahead and revert your settings, and exit out of Edge fully. Open a command prompt window as an admin and run this command line, filling in your user details from your computer: msedge.exe --log-net-log=%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\ReproNetlog.json --net-log-capture-mode=Everything
When you do this, it should collect a trace and save it to your desktop once you exit out of Edge again. I suspect that you will be able to capture this pretty easily. After you do this, open Edge again and please submit feedback by holding Alt+Shift+I to bring up the tool, detail what you are running into, include your email address so that the engineering team or I can talk to you directly, and put my name into the feedback details so I can easily find it. You do not need to attach the logs if they are too large, but it would be beneficial to do so if you can. Let me know once you send that in, and I will get it to the team digging into it.
I massively appreciate the report and ensuring we're aware of it! I look forward to how things work out for you, please do tag me again to ensure I see your response. 🙂

MissyQ Hi Missy
A Microsoft official who uses the account "CM_Alexandra-R" on the MicrosoftEdge Reddit posted this:
"Hey there OP! This is a known issue and is fixed in 97.0.1057.0 but not quite moved up to Stable yet. Our Insiders who've had the same thing happening have reported it resolved, so you're welcome to give an Insider build a try if you'd like (Canary and Dev have the fix.) Or, I'll check back in with you after that build is in Stable and make sure the fix is working for you!"
Do you know when the fix will go out to the Stable Channel? I'm using "Version 96.0.1054.53 (Official build) (64-bit)". Will I have to wait until the version 97 series hits Stable?
- NuAngelIron ContributorYou know what's really interesting? When I look at this list of requested features and user feedback, I don't see any mention at all of "Buy Now Pay Later" features. CRAZY, RIGHT?
- mrfry700Iron ContributorIs there anyway of hiding Alert & Tips, Discover in the menu context menu? Really unnecessary clutter.
- EdgeEnemyDueToBingCopper ContributorNothing is more representative of the hate and disgust that microsoft products create than the edge insider tech community.
A lot of the comments here are of frustration and negativity, and instead of listening to users, we get this "tone deaf" frequent feedback list.
With regards to the new "feedback community", microsoft had an old "feedback" community that got lots and lots of feedback. In the end, it became a graveyard of complaints and frustrated users, because features were not delivered, bugs did not get fixed (even worse, products were released with no testing and planning), and what the community actually asked for was not implemented.
In the end the products got so much hate and disgust that they had to kill it.
This community will die, just like the old feedback forums, and just like the insiders community. - Rob GarrettCopper ContributorDear Edge: STOP HIJACKING MY .PDF settings!! I want .pdf's to open in Acrobat Reader, not Edge - forever and always. Thank you.
- BLue677Copper Contributor
Yes, agree with this, it is very annoying during presentation Edge suddenly took over without permission, i have to manually set it back to Acrobat & while mumbling come'on, please leave the professional software handle those file type
- ErikLaneCopper ContributorI've tried a couple of times to install the stable version of Edge to my laptop using Ubuntu 20.04 but after it's installed, I cannot sync anything with my email address. I put in my address but nothing happens. I was able to successfully sync everything on my PC that uses Ubuntu 20.04 with no problem. But my laptop is older & does not have a processor that's as fast as my PC. Could this be the problem?
- Reza_AmeriSilver ContributorThank you for updates, I really love the new Feedback portal and I would like to thank you for that, so is there any plan to share general idea sending from the Feedback option in the Microsoft Edge inside this portal?
- mwubbenhorstCopper ContributorHi! Please allow keyboard shortcuts created in MS Word to work in OneNote as well.
AND Please allow the “international keyboard” (under United States language) to be utilized in OneNote. It can’t even do accents.
So far, users writing in languages other than English (yet working on an English interface) are forced to write accents and other symbols with 1990’s ASCII and Hex codes. Teachers in World Language departments try to teach students to be digital polyglots in one seamless environment. We won’t accomplish this if we have to switch languages and/or keyboards on our system interface every time we give classes to our students. In language class, one document has two languages on the same page. We need to live in a multilingual setting on OneNote. Please make OneNote as capable as Word. right now we're doing all of our work in Word and then copying and pasting into OneNote. The redundancy is killing me. Thank you for your attention to this matter. - sauravyad500Iron ContributorMissyQ The edge://settings page is very slow and even those "View Site Information", "Bookmarks" and "Downloads" flyout are very slow. They compose very slowly on the screen while "Extensions" loads quickly. Please take note of it. I had sent so many feedbacks and created so many posts but team is not fixing those lethargic behaviour.
