Note: This is no longer the most recent top feedback summary. You can always find the latest at https://aka.ms/MSEdgeTopFeedback.
Hello insiders, and a special welcome to our Beta channel audience who received Microsoft Edge version 79 today!
This is our weekly update on the top feedback we are hearing from you via the Send feedback smiley. All the feedback you send us drives action on the team, including individual bug reports, quick feedback on the latest features, and ideas for the future. If you provide your email when you give feedback, you’ll usually get an email response to close the loop when the feedback has been addressed. However, for the topics we hear about the most often from the most people, we wanted to do something more, so back in August we started these weekly top feedback summaries. Here we tell you the status and plan for these top topics, and in some cases host discussions here in the Microsoft Edge Insider Forum to explore more with you.
Last week we started discussions about four topics (click to see and participate in the thread for each):
This week we had one bug with YouTube which generated a lot of feedback. The YouTube.com site wasn’t rendering properly and appeared extremely magnified. This bug is fixed in the latest Dev and Canary channel builds (and was never introduced in Beta). Let us know if you see any more issues here.
Also this week we have some new feedback to cover about sync capabilities. We’ve seen an increase in requests for both browsing history and extensions to sync between different devices. We’re pleased to say these are already planned for the near future. We expect them to arrive in the Dev and Canary channels in January at the latest.
Finally, we’re happy to announce the arrival of the OneNote Web Clipper in the extensions store, which was the top requested extension.
The full updated list is below . . . and this week we’re introducing an archive of previously addressed topics which you can find if you scroll all the way to the bottom.
Thanks, and see you next week!

Planned for January | Enable sync of installed browser extensions between devices | New! |
Planned for January | Enable sync of browsing history between devices | New! |
Very excited to see syncing finally get a timeline: I was absolutely uneasy that this feature either 1) might not launch in the first stable release or 2) not have enough testing and launch with a lot of broken corner cases.
Browser history syncing especially, could take a lot of testing between all the operating systems Edge supports: iOS to Android to MacOS to Windows 10 to Windows 8 to Windows 10.
Unrelated: will Edge get a new name, too? I guess we'll always call them "Old Edge with the single color E" vs "Chromium Edge with the swirly and colorful E". And will 1809 + 1903 + 1909 automatically get the new Edge or only 20H1 users? Maybe we'll get more answers this week at Ignite!

I have some feedback regarding the new edge beta, if this is the wrong place, i apologize. I love the new edge, but there are a few things i feel it is missing. *mostly because of my OCD. I very much miss the edge tabs that are perfectly square and go all the way to the top of the browser. To me this looks very clean and better organized. Would it be very difficult to give us the option to have that tab style turned on or customized? Also i actually found the preview pane of Edge VERY useful. As a network engineer, i shock a lot of people by telling them that edge is my favourite browser when asked what i use. It is very neat and clean looking (i may be the ONLY person in the world that cares about this) and it also uses almost no system resources compared to other browsers. If i could have the option to use the old edge tab style, but with the new format options (focused, inspirational, etc) and everything else the same, this browser would be perfect. Also, is it just me or does the button for quick changing the page layout on a new tab seem weirdly placed? Put the quick change button on on the browser bar with the rest of the buttons! @David Rubino

Please add to the list Collections syncing
And keep Microsoft Edge Google-free
I don't see why adding OneNote clipper extension to the Microsoft extension store is a big deal. it's been available in Chrome store forever and there are far more important extensions missing in Microsoft extension store.
there needs to be a way so that extension developers can submit new extensions for Edge insider into your store.
The sync functionality is very fragile and unstable right now. it's good when there is only 1 browser syncing but the problems start happening after there is more than 1 browser or device syncing to the same device.
there are Numerous posts of many people having this problem. some are seeing duplicate bookmarks, others are seeing missing data (bookmarks, passwords etc), some others are not seeing changes applied to one browser being applied to others.
Yes Favorites, passwords, address, open tabs Syncs are enabled but It's gonna take at least 1 year to make them reliable.

Hi David,
I am not sure if the ability exists but is there a way to access favourites\bookmarks while in fullscreen mode ? At the moment i am having to exit fullscreen mode to select another bookmark.
I was hoping a menu to bookmarks would be available by write clicking or hovering to the top of the screen brings down the URL bar and menu like original Edge browser.
Many Thanks
Daniel

@David Rubino Lots to love in this new Edge! One thing I use Edge for nearly everyday is highlighting/annotating PDFs for school. I've noticed that the new Edge now has tools for annotating PDFs with a pen, but the feature set is very limited:
If the current feature set launches in January, I will be unable to continue using Edge when the next semester begins. Can we expect feature parity with the old Edge for PDF annotations in time for public launch?
Thanks for all the hard work!
11-04-2019 11:11 AM
This is something I agree with and would really like to see from the new Edge. As a student studying a degree, the inking features on the old edge were great for annotating webpages and scientific articles when researching for my studies, and I'll be sorry to see all these features scrapped come January.
I'd love to see a colour selector, thickness selector, erasing using a Surface Pen eraser tip, a ruler tool, highlighters, pencils - on both PDFs and webpages

@David Rubino In the latest beta, the ability to change the picture locally to one of the built-in clip art images (I originally chose the blue robot) is no longer available for online-synced accounts. Instead, when managing the profile, there is a "change picture" link which just redirects to the URL to edit your online account's profile pic that's used pretty much everywhere in the O365 ecosystem. Subjectively, I think this is worse. You should be able to choose to use your online picture or one of the local images (or any arbitrary image file for that matter) so you can easily distinguish between your personal and work accounts at a glance. Chrome supports this. I'm sure I'm not the only person who uses the same professional photo for both my personal and work accounts.
Everything I've said is a matter of preference, but there is an actual defect as well. If you are going to force us to only be able to use our online profile pic, it should at least be consistent. If you look below, you can see that the Edge profile linked to my personal MS account, for which I selected the blue robot clip art image as the profile pic in an earlier Beta build, still shows that clip art in the task bar, but not in the browser.

The Browser crashed after the update to v79 and can't be recovered. I did have 3 chrome addons installed. The browser opens to blank error pages. Unable to get to the settings page. Also, Uninstall disappeared in programs and features after the last Beta update.
I need to be able to troubleshoot and fix this issue before deploying any further pilots.

IMO, the browser will have a hard time to be adopted until it syncs with work or school accounts.

@ikjadoonI still feel like edge won't be ready in time. There are a lot of flags that need to be introduced and missing features that are still "under review".
11-05-2019 06:31 AM
I completely agree with you, creating Edge on Chromium opens the doors to more developers to create content and addons for Edge Chromium. With that being said, I want to make sure that this eco-system does not become dependant on Google's existing web-stores. While the functionality is cool, the ability to add content right from there is also cool. I worry about Google waking up one day going 'We don't like this,' and canning that functionality.
11-05-2019 06:43 AM
@David Rubino Please include SET ASIDE TABS. This feature is super useful!! Most of the people I know, use classic edge because of these two features, set aside tabs and smooth scrolling. It's super easy and super convenient.

@HotCakeX @David Rubino @Elliot Kirk
I've also had consistent favorites syncing problems. The first problem is that the favorites won't specify if their set to show icon only(I'm going to call them pinned) when they sync. The second problem is on Canary, My favorites not only won't sync, when they fail, they load the data from my other browsers, meaning all changes to favorites are lost, and since my pinned Favs won't sync that their pinned, they get big again, meaning every time I re-open the browser, I have to right click and change it, or have no room for my other folders in the favorites bar. This is very irritating and even though its only been a little over a week since it started happening, it feels like an entire month. Thank you for listening to my rant and please make this a priority.

I think Microsoft should create their extension submission portal setup soon for developers and also create a Fork of Chromium source and have their own engineers, developers, employees work on that.
so it will stay open source but this time Microsoft, instead of Google, will be the one managing it.
honestly I think it's very much worth it because it's a new browser that has so much potential.

Again, I need Chromium Edge to NOT close the menu when middle-clicking on a favourite in a favourites menu (from favourites bar or the three dot menu). This is not revolutionary: IE supports this, EdgeHTML Edge supports this and Firefox supports this. I will not ever consider using a browser that does not provide this behaviour. Every browser I've used since the early 2000s has offered this behaviour which I have used many times every day since the early 2000s.
And again you neither add it to the list of items to review, nor reply that it can't be done for whatever reason.
But I can't test for this in the new Edge Dev today as since updating Edge Dev crashes immediately after starting every time. Edge Canary continues to work after updating, though.

Hi David@David Rubino
I wanted to reply to let you know the "Touchpad two-finger scrolling is sometimes triggering a right click instead" issue that was report 9 weeks ago and you are saying happens sometimes, happens EVERY time that I do a two-finger scroll, NOT sometimes, EVERY TIME - When are you going to fix this issue? Please see the following screenshot;
To know about this for 9 weeks and not address it in an update that you have provided on the 5th of November isn't on... this is a MAJOR User Experience issue. Can I have an estimate timeline to fix this rubbish?
I have also noticed that the latest Edge Beta is still doing the massive screen zoom, when doing a two-finger scroll... this is my screen with the Zoom set at 100%...
Can I ask for an estimated fix timeline for this issue?
To confirm, I am running Edge Beta Version 79.0.309.12 (Official build) beta (64-bit)... I get this is a Beta, but please acknowledge the issues in a realistic time frame and then fix them - Thank you

@David Rubino Can you please have this addressed;
The address bar and its text are too big, and should be smaller like Chrome
I am a long term user of Chrome as my only browser... I really like how the Chrome user interface is sized... The Edge Beta's under interface is way too big - please include this in the next update...
11-05-2019 03:51 PM
@David Rubino Could ask you to define what is meant by this statement, which is tagged for November;
A round of improvements to scrolling experience, with more (including performance) to come down the line
Is there another update to the Edge Beta in November 2019? The scrolling experience in the Edge Beta is REALLY poor... please advise

Hi there
Why do we discuss about the color of buttons, the shape of tabs, smiley buttons and the sorting of favorites if there are basic features of the old Edge and IE which are still not working in the new Edge: Tab preview, two finger scrolling, sound problems, strange behavior of IE mode, no offline installer (Stable Edge updates itself to Dev version)...
I know, the weighting of an issue is always subjective, but colors and shapes should only be corrected if the functionality it self is granted. IMHO...
Regards, Chris

"seems to be pretty simple thing to add"
You're forgetting that MS are actually doing very little to Edge that is a big change from Chromium. Compare to other chromium browsers like Vivaldi and you'll see what could be done.
11-06-2019 12:04 AM
Exactly! Why is edge making 90 requests to 28 hosts on startup? I am very slightly dubious as it's from Brave and they have a reason to make it look bad. But I figure I'll install a monitor and see for myself. If it carries on I'll be swapping to Brave or Vivaldi.
11-06-2019 12:06 AM
@Chrizzly your points are very valid... @David Rubino Can you have your team address the various functionality items which we keep flagging and the Development team are clearly ignoring... Edge Beta has massive issues and it’s not a good user experience at the moment... Thank you

@David Rubino I just want to thank the team for the OneNote extension. I had written that up several times and given pretty detailed descriptions of the design requirements. While I heard nothing back ever, the extension functions pretty much as I envisioned. This has made another great leap for both products towards acceptance in my circles of influence.
Again thank you for helping my push for OneNote acceptance by my team.
(@HotCakeX While I appreciate you being satisfied with the Chrome's SendtoOneNote extension, I was not. It was buggy and non-repeatable. I also don't understand why "Keep Edge Separate from Chrome" was a slogan. Chrome had been easier to use, faster, more versatile, more capable and more universally accepted than IE, Edge or Bing and Safari, Opera, Ghosterly, DuckDuckGo, Silk and dozens more. I think it is good to learn from others and grow, especially using common infrastructure. One the other comments, I think I see where you are coming from.)
May the future efforts be just as productive. Thank you.

The Vivaldi browser that you are talking about: Initial release date: January 27, 2015
Microsoft Edge insider (Chromium): Initial release date: On April 8, 2019
so give Microsoft that much time (4 years) and then compare the two browsers ;)
within only few months that's been passed, I would say MSFT is doing a great job (Not perfect) so far.

Hi there,
oh I wasn't satisfied with that extension either, I was saying that it's not such a big news that OnteNote extension came from Google chrome extension store to Microsoft extension store.
I prefer a built in option, the web page inking that is in the list of suggested features above.
yes Chrome is fast, easy, versatile and all that but that's only the Chromium open-source engine that Microsoft already embraced it. what I'm saying is that to keep Edge free from Google services.
Chromium is open source and made by other people but integrating Google services (as a private company) into Microsoft browser is not something that is welcomed by many people.
11-06-2019 10:07 AM
The start menu tile looks so bad! Additionally, the only two possible sizes are small and medium.
This should really be one of your priorities.
11-06-2019 12:01 PM
Yeah, Edge insider's icon looks so bad compared to Firefox nightly's
Google chrome's icon looks awful as well, very small in the middle with so much space around it
11-06-2019 02:50 PM
@David RubinoCan you let us know if the Development team and the Projects Managers have a specified and agreed time frame for resolving all of these issues?
If Microsoft is planning to released the finished product in January, you need to get organised and work to specified time frames and milestones...
11-06-2019 04:03 PM
@David Rubino I have been upgraded to Version 79.0.309.14 (Official build) beta (64-bit) this evening and the Context/Right-click menu is still appearing EVERYTIME/ALL THE TIME when two-finger scrolling... see the following screenshot...
When are you going to fix this????
You have an issue, it has been reported many times and your Developers aren't resolving the issue...
11-06-2019 04:23 PM
@David Rubino Can I please ask when the Developers will fix this crap... I'm on the latest version and this is the 'Welcome Back!' page in a tab;
This is with the browser set at 100% zoom... Please sort out the quality of the builds... this issue was reported to you at least 9 weeks ago and you are ignoring the users like myself who are kind enough to provide you with feedback... what is the point if you don't investigate and listen?
Please sort this rubbish out this week...
