Windows LAPS: enhancements and roadmap
Event details
Hi Markus, I totally get it and we have gotten this same exact feedback from multiple customers. Regrettably the answer is no. You can read a more detailed response to this question from my colleague Cliff here:

JaySimmons, ok then but you can't then deprecate legacy LAPS as you announced here ... right? I understand that backporting _anything_ at Microsoft is a struggle but to refuse to backport to a single in-market OS but then also deprecate the only supported solution for that OS is ... kind of unconscionable.

Hi Bryan,
I think you are misunderstanding our statements on this matter.
We announced deprecation of legacy LAPS on all future platforms shipped after October 23rd 2023 (this statement will get crisper and more specific very soon).
To your concern, legacy LAPS is still fully supported on Windows Server 2016. And on existing in-market (pre 10/23) versions of Win11, WS2022, WS2019, and Win10. Legacy LAPS will remain fully supported on those existing platforms until their normal end-of-life.
I realize this topic is important and sensitive to our customers. Which is why I have tried very hard and very sincerely to speak plainly about it. My apologies if it's not coming through very clearly.
Bryan, does this response address your concern?
Jay
- BryanDamNov 30, 2023Brass ContributorAh, ok, you are totally right Jay, my bad. Absolute comprehension fail on my part. So all vNext OS's will come without legacy LAPS support and all all in-market OS's will continue to be supported until their EoL.
