Windows 365: Ask Microsoft Anything
Event details
Get answers to your questions about Windows 365, the end user experience, the IT admin experience, and how you can manage Cloud PCs using the same workflows and tools you use today with traditional PCs.
On July 14th, we announced Windows 365, a new service that takes the Windows operating system to the Microsoft cloud. Windows 365 streams a full, personalized Windows experience to end users–including their apps, content, and settings–to any device. Unlike traditional virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), it does this by leveraging the same skills and tools you already use to deploy and manage physical PCs, at a predictable per-user, per-month price. Windows 365 delivers a Windows 10 or Windows 11 (when generally available) personalized desktop experience that is fully integrated with Microsoft 365. Now we're offering you a chance to Ask Microsoft Anything (AMA) about this new service!
Submit your questions for our engineering and product experts to answer live--or post your questions early in the Comments below and catch up when it's convenient for you.

- kavinduaOccasional ReaderCan understand that there are differences between Windows 365 and AVD infrastructure, capabilities ,pricing models and etc. But can you tell us few customer scenarios where we cannot use Windows 365 instead of AVD?
- Bryan_TaylorCopper ContributorBoth Windows 365 and AVD can support the majority of customer scenarios where persistent desktops are required; which you choose in those cases will be more about your specific characteristics/preferences (licensing in place, existing infrastructure/investments, skills level, billing model preferences, speed of initial deployment, etc). However, AVD supports additional scenarios where multi-session/non-persistent desktops, remote app capability, or Citrix/VMware integration are required. In addition, low-usage scenarios will be a better fit for AVD's consumption-based billing model.
- niglbrownCopper ContributorWould you see W365 being complimentary to AVD? Say different users needing different experiences - a personal hostpool isn't a common request outside of Heavy workloads (GPU/Admin/Dev).
- Colby_HanleyBrass ContributorWe very much see AVD and Windows 365 as solving different customer needs. AVD will offer flexibility and other benefits while Windows 365 offers easier manageability, deployment, etc.

Organizations may choose AVD for some departments where their needs are best suited with a multi-user or remote app experience where other departments might be better suited with a personal desktop experience at a fixed price. The two services provide great interop and can share much of the same customer side infrastructure (VNETs, AD/AAD, NSG, CA Policies, etc).
- niglbrownCopper ContributorWill there ever be consideration for W365 to support multisession SKUs or will this remain an AVD feature (this does break the per user license model a bit).
- Mike_Wimberly
Microsoft
Windows 365 is focused on Persistent Personal Desktops. At this time, AVD will be the product of choice for multisession scenarios.
- Christian ZenzanoBrass ContributorWhat options do I have to deploy my organization configuration and base image.
- Christiaan_Brinkhoff
Microsoft
We do support custom images, customers can upload their own images as Azure Managed image and then after that add them into the Windows 365 service via Microsoft Endpoint Manager.
- bdam55Iron ContributorIs there a limit to how many Business edition Cloud PCs an org can have?
- Bryan_TaylorCopper ContributorYes, there is a 300 user limit.
- bdam55Iron ContributorThanks correctly-spelled Bryan!
- Christian ZenzanoBrass ContributorWill Windows 365 integrate with other UEM tools such as VMWare Workspace One.
- bdam55Iron ContributorAnd is there a difference in that respect between Business and Enterprise W365.

We have seen a lot of interest for sovereign and GCC/GCCH support for Windows 365. We will be providing more information on support for these scenarios and other forward looking features and capabilities. You can make feature requests at the link below and soon you will be able to see the scheduled new features linked at this page as well - https://aka.ms/Windows365/FeatureRequests- Christian ZenzanoBrass Contributorare you able to stablish network connection rules that use only Azure Government data centers ?

- Neil GoldsteinIron ContributorWhen the underlying Azure Virtual Desktop supports a non-Classic Domain joined configuration. (I.e. Only AzureAD but without Domain Services), will "Windows 365/Cloud PC" also support an option to have only AzureAD? i.e. I want Windows 365/Cloud PC that is cloud only, without Hybrid Auth. as a step-up for M365-E5 CSP clients. -Neil
- Colby_HanleyBrass ContributorYes, Neil, we also have plans to support Native AAD and are actively investigating. Stay tuned!
- linneahrCopper ContributorCan you elaborate on what backup and recovery options will be available? Will it be the same as Azure Backup?
- Christiaan_Brinkhoff
Microsoft
We are working on different enhancements to provide snapshotting of cloud PCs as part of Windows 365. In the interim, we are leveraging OneDrive, Microsoft Edge, and Enterprise State Roaming to ensure the data of the user. More documentation around BCSR and backup capabilities will become available on the 2nd of August.
