Today, you manage your Windows 10 estate using an established process, cadence, tools, servicing model, a ring strategy, security model, etc. so what should one expect in moving to a Windows 11 estate?

Submit your questions during this live hour--or submit questions early (by posting a Comment below) and catch up when it's convenient for you.

This AMA did not have a video feed, but our speakers responded to comments live during the scheduled time in discussion below.

What are your plans regarding Control Panel in Windows. In how months/years can we expect the Windows Settings app to become the single spot for all the system settings?

This^ I hope that for 5 years. There still some things that are only in the old control panel. Outlook profile configuration, reliability history, device manager, event viewer. Some are even not consequent. Win+X Disk Management does not open Settings Storage but the ugly diskmgmt.msc

What exactly does the co-existence of the "21H2" naming on both, Windows 10 builds and Windows 11 builds mean? Doesn't it cause a lot of confusion?

Are there any plans to make it possible to remove OneDrive permanently for organizations that aren't using it? It's possible to disable usage of it via policy on W10, but it still processes an app update for each user that logs in and that results in increased time for profile generation. It would make much more sense to remove it completely like most other built-in apps if it's not required.

you can use WIMWitch or PowerShell or Winget to remove it.

Are there any planned changes around Hyper-V? One of the biggest challenges that we have with it is that we can't make a lite version of VMConnect available to standard users that would let them connect to the VM but not modify any settings. Connecting via RDP to the VM isn't a sufficient alternative since it requires network connectivity between the host and VM--this becomes a very challenging situation when a VPN is in play.

Also, are there any plans to make the Default Switch an optional component when Hyper-V is enabled? We're not able to utilize this switch in our configuration and it results in unnecessary noise in our endpoint and network management applications.

We're currently leveraging the Shell Launcher v1 lockdown feature quite heavily for customer-facing endpoints, digital signage, etc. We're working on taking advantage of Shell Launcher v2 and was curious if there are plans to continue expanding the capabilities of this feature with W11.

Does anybody already know the EOL of windows 10 21H2? Will there be a kind of "long term support" version (maybee 21H2) like 1909 and 20H2 before? Will any windows 10 release in the future altough introduce the requirement of TPM2.0?

Q1) will we be able to keep Windows 10 Live Tiles style start menu to some extent if upgrading? Q2) in the beta channel, will we see android apps via Microsoft store/sideloading and file explorer with tabs ? Q3) just like snip and sketch for screenshots, is providing native support for screen recording or internet speedometer possible? Q4) like windows icons, are native mouse pointers too getting visuals redesigns? Q5) upgrading to win 11 would take more of the hard disk space or the same as win 10? can there be any chances of compatibility issues of apps due to upgrading? will win11 be as resource intensive as win 10?

Thanks for joining! I'll answer a few of your questions: 1) No, Lives Tiles are not supported in Windows 11. 2) More details on Android app support will come soon. It is not in the beta channel at this time. 3) I do not believe so. 4) I do not believe so. 5) The application compatibility for Windows 11 should be very similar to Windows 10, and we have App Assure to help you if you run into issues. I can't comment on the resource intensive question.
