Event details

Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365 are complementary products that enable every organization to deliver Windows from the Cloud to its employees. Understanding how to select the right product(s) to address your organization’s needs is a critical first step. This session builds on the Microsoft Ignite 2022 on-demand session Experience Windows in the cloud with Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365, diving deeper into the IT admin experience of each product and the choices you’ll need to make before, during, and after deployment. Join us as product managers Eric Orman and Roop Kiran Chevuri click another level down on this all-important topic.

This session is part of the Microsoft Technical Takeoff: Windows + Intune. Add it to your calendar, RSVP for event reminders, and post your questions and comments below! This session will also be recorded and available on demand shortly after conclusion of the live event.

What kind of time frame is a user looking at to get apps deployed to the virtual machine that are not Office 365. An example for my environment would be Adobe Creative cloud. Can the software be pre-deployed to the virtual machine before the user logs in for the first time?

Yes, you can target apps, settings and configurations to the device just like you would and can do for a physical device managed by Intune using the exact same targeting and assignment tools provided within Intune. I like to recommend using filters rather than AAD groups because filters will be a quicker install and not have to wait for group evaluation and waiting for device/Cloud PC to perform a sync.

Probably be better set up as a custom image, as I just heard.

Just to be clear, I believe that Eric just stated that Windows updates are applied to a Cloud PC using policies established by the Intune Admin. Does this apply to security updates as well?

Yes, a Cloud PC should be managed and governed in the same way as a physical PC managed by Intune. All the apps, settings and configurations that are deployed to physical PC's are applicable to Cloud PC's too.
  • Don't be shy. This is a great forum to ask your questions, but also to share information about use cases and scenarios you need to support. Post now or anytime this week in the Comments.

Will Windows 365 and AVD merge into a single portal at any point?

Windows 365 Admin experience is targeted for Endpoint admins so they can manage it similar to other PC's in their environment whereas Azure Virtual Desktop experience is targeted for Azure Infra Admins who are familiar with operating on VDI and Azure and hence there are two separate portals. Could you provide more details on the scenario where you would like to manage both from one and what your preferred portal would be?

Sometimes we need to provide multisession solutions and some times more specific personal desktops. The one team is managing both solutions, so struggling to see why we would use one over the other.
