- David_MebaneMicrosoftHi Folks - I am David Mebane, a PM Lead for Windows Update for Business and Update Compliance. Looking forward to the discussion today and working to help you all be successful on Windows 11!
- Christian ZenzanoBrass ContributorMy organization previously had concerns with the early release of Windows Analytics as it could potentially capture confidential data or data that was under data compliance scope. Is there a new Gov version of Analytics that falls with GCC compliance requirements.
- acabelloCopper ContributorThree part answer: We publish supporting documentation to help you review what diagnostic data gets collected at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/privacy/configure-windows-diagnostic-data-in-your-organization#enable-windows-diagnostic-data-processor-configuration . Then, we are constantly looking at ways to give you more confidence in using services that rely on windows diagnostic data. We just added an option where you can become the controller of windows diagnostic data https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/privacy/configure-windows-diagnostic-data-in-your-organization#enable-windows-diagnostic-data-processor-configuration . This configuration still requires commercial cloud, but support ISO and SOC2 compliance certifications. We think about this data processor configuration as the first step on the journey to obtain additional certifications.
- acabelloCopper Contributori guess four part answer! then, we've designed Endpoint analytics from the ground up to not have dependencies on Windows diagnostic data, you should give it a try! https://aka.ms/uea
- ChrisClaytonSTLCCBrass ContributorWe use a combination of M365 resources as well as SCCM for Windows device management. I want to make sure that our desktop team has what they need to be successful with deploying Windows 11, and not waiting on me as the global admin. Is there a role I need to delegate besides Desktop Analytics and Intune Administrator for them to be able to proceed with all the tools and integrations Microsoft is providing to support this?
- David_MebaneMicrosoftHi Chris - there are a few options for you. In addition to the Intune Administrator role, you can also use the Policy and Profile Manager Role in Intune for managing Windows Updates. Beyond the Intune Administrator and Policy and/or Profile Manager Role for managing updates, we also recommend using Endpoint Analytics to determine device eligibility. The permissions for Endpoint Analytics are available here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/analytics/overview#permissions Since you asked about all tools, I will also mention that if your team wants to use the Windows Update for Business deployment service directly, you can use the Windows Update Deployment Administrator in Azure Active Directory (though this does not apply within Endpoint Manager). Hope this helps!
- JosephDKasterCopper ContributorWhen will a preview of Windows 11 upgrade planning be available in Endpoint Analytics?
- Zach DvorakMicrosoftHey Joseph! We're working on Win11 hardware readiness insights in Endpoint analytics right now! I don't have a specific date I can share with you just yet, but we'll have those ready for you closer to the Win11 GA.
- Christian ZenzanoBrass ContributorDoes Windows analytics require a SCCM agent ?
- Zach DvorakMicrosoftHey Christian, thanks for your question! Could you clarify which scenario(s) you're looking to accomplish? Update Compliance (which was formerly part of the Windows Analytics suite) does not require Configuration Manager. Similarly, Endpoint analytics does not require Configuration Manager - it works for Intune-only, co-managed, or ConfigMgr/tenant attached devices. Desktop Analytics, on the other hand, is a feature of Configuration Manager, so you will need the ConfigMgr agent for that one.
- Christian ZenzanoBrass ContributorMy organization does not use SCCM or Intune and has decided to use VMWare Workspace One as the UEM. I am wondering if I still have the option to use Window Analytic to identify compliance issues and device readiness.
