Since it was a little quiet in the chat here, we combed the Azure Virtual Desktop community, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, and blog comments to make sure we offered an hour full of insights, tips, and best practices. Here are the questions we answered today:
- From LinkedIn -- Can someone please explain the difference between RDP Shortpath and Private Link, and the scenarios where each of these should be used? - answered at 04:40.
- From the AVD community -- I'm testing a video watermarking in screen capture protection on Windows 365 Cloud PCs, we've made MFA mandatory for users. I don't, however, see an option to use MFA with watermarking and screen protection. If there is a point that I have overlooked about this issue, what method should I follow? - answered at 07:40.
- From Twitter/X -- As an IT admin, I would like to be able to control the AVD client updates across my endpoints. Can I block the client updates to allow me to test them before I roll them out into production? - answered at 14:15.
- From Twitter/X -- Sizing the correct session host in Azure Virtual Desktop can take a significant amount of time and effort. Do you have any recommendations on how we can accelerate the sizing of our session hosts? - answered at 18:10.
- From Twitter/X -- We currently use App-V today however it will no longer be supported from April 2026. What advice do you have for customers who want to plan their application deployment strategy over the next 3 years? - answered at 25:00.
- From Twitter/X -- We're trying to use FS Logics, but can't use Azure Virtual desktop. Can the profiles be stored on Prem? Our environment primarily uses physical desktops with VMs pretty much only used as servers. - answered at 27:33.
- From LinkedIn -- AVD newbie here, still learning. Is it a best practice to join the AVD host to the domain and control applications (system context) and user settings on multi-session AVD hosts from Intune? Any good guides out there on how to set this up and what to control from Intune? - answered at 34:00.
- From the AVD community -- When using the Windows Multi-session images (Windows Multi-session + Microsoft 365 apps, example Windows 11 22H2) from the marketplace it contains an old version of Fslogix ( 2201 hotfix 1 2.9.8171.14983). This version contains all sorts of bugs and issues. Why does the image not contain the newest version of Fslogix? - answered at 42:40.
- From an AVD blog post -- I was able to get the URI scheme to work but it defaults to full screen using all monitors. Do you have any tips on customizing this to a Full Screen on one monitor only? - answered at 45:20.
- From Twitter/X -- Are ephemeral disks supported on AVD? - answered at 50:35.
- From LinkedIn -- Our typical AVD users have company devices but we have a new user who needs AVD to their user device. I'm concerned about security. I want to restrict the communication between their local computer and our AVD, that way even if their systems are affected by any malware it won't affect our AVD infrastructure. No file sharing, no hardware sharing, everything should be done in the AVD only. What is the best practice here? - answered at 52:50.
- Hi Char_Cheesman, Thanks for your reply but I didn't get the answer I was looking for and I wanted to elaborate on the subject. If you excuse me, I would like to explain the situation in more detail. MFA is enforced for my user. When I try to connect to my Windows 365 Cloud PC with "Windows 365" or "Remote Desktop" App, I get "The Logon attempt failed" error. When I disable MFA, I can log in without any problems. When I try to log in to my Windows 365 Cloud PC from https://windows365.microsoft.com/ or https://client.wvd.microsoft.com/webclient/v2/index.html via web browser, "Disconnected - The remote PC ended your session. If this keeps happening ask your admin or tech support for help." gets the error. Because "Watermarking and screen capture protection" is enabled and this error is received because these features do not support access via the Web browser. If watermarking and screen capture protection are disabled while MFA is enforced, the connection between the Web client and the browser is successful. Or, if MFA is disabled and watermarking and screen capture protection are enabled, a successful connection to Cloud PCs is provided via Desktop applications. In order to provide more security, we want to use watermarking and screen capture protection features while MFA has already been enforced for our users. However, the current situation does not allow this. I am ready to support my help on the subject if needed. I am waiting for your questions in case there is a point that is not understood. Thanks.

- Ref. AppReadiness / black screen. We have seen this issue quite a bit in out host pool (multi session) with only one application in use. The session is not stuck like mentioned in the video, but we see login times from five minutes up to twenty minutes. We have been using the method in this article as a workaround: https://msendpointmgr.com/2021/08/30/fslogix-slow-sign-in-fix-redux/ , deleting the StateRepository database which builds up over time, but it doesn't sound like something that we should rely on doing from time to time. Could you share anymore info about the StateRepository database in the next months AMA? Why does the database build up over time and how can we prevent it from happening?
