- cvangorpCopper ContributorWhat about Out of Band updates? Example was this month MS released an update we needed for SSL VPN that fixed our VPN client and I was able to manually upload to our WSUS that superseded the regular Oct update and deployed on our normal schedule.

Chris, for expediting updates, Autopatch supports accelerating deployment of updates as described at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/windows-autopatch/operate/windows-autopatch-wqu-overview#expedited-releases. In the event you have an issue with Autopatch managed devices, you can submit a Service Request to have the issue investigated and mitigated.- JFSanchez987Copper ContributorSpecifically for this SSL/TLS fix update, the KB stated it wouldn't be released through Windows Update for Business, only microsoft update catalog. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/october-17-2022-kb5020435-os-builds-19042-2132-19043-2132-and-19044-2132-out-of-band-243f34de-2f44-4015-a224-1b68a4132ca5 If it's not being added to WUFB, how could autopatch handle it?
- Drizz_coopBrass ContributorDo you have a list of what products are covered by Autopatch. can autopatch take over the patching of other MS products i.e. Edge, Teams, webview. like on prem config manager does now.

Hi Robert,
The short answer is 'yes' to most of your questions - the https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/windows-autopatch/overview/windows-autopatch-faq page on Autopatch spells out the scope of updates that Autopatch will be able to manage: Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise, Microsoft Edge, and Microsoft Teams.
These updates are not all supported in the same manner as Windows Quality Updates currently. For more detail on Microsoft 365 Apps and Teams - this article has a great level of detail:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/windows-autopatch/operate/windows-autopatch-microsoft-365-apps-enterprise#update-controls
As for the other apps you mentioned, we will continue to aggregate customer requests and evaluate whether to expand the scope of the service as it evolves. - Drizz_coopBrass ContributorMake this tool the one for all patching tool. I don't want to configure my edge updates, my 365 updates etc

Hey Robert. Everything that Autopatch currently covers is listed in our documentation, here. (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/windows-autopatch/overview/windows-autopatch-overview#update-management)

Great product, but why only for Enterprise Licensed customers? Not for Business Premium customers? Those smaller businesses want to keep these kind of things so easy as possible. And I believe Autopatch could also help those businesses.
- SoupAtMSFTFormer EmployeeRob, Hopefully Lior and the team's on-line response covered your question.
- mikejenkinsonCopper ContributorAutopatch for EDU please. This is a product and process we want to implement and utilize.
- WaagsFormer EmployeeHi Michael, we are currently working on bringing all the Autopatch capabilities to our Windows E3/5 customers. While we do not have a timeline, we are aware of the strong interest in Autopatch among our Education customers and working on a plan. e.
- SgtWoooCopper ContributorI watched the previous event where it was mentioned alternative Office channels were being considered, this would be huge for us, as my organisation is on Semi Annual Channel for O365 and this is the only blocker for us adopting Autopatch, when is this consideration going to be finalised?
- WaagsFormer EmployeeHey Stephen, presently (OCT 2022), Windows Autopatch only supports the Office Monthly Enterprise Channel. With that said, we are in the process of reviewing this. Unfortunately, there is no timeline to share at this moment. If you have other requirements, we’d love to hear from you.
- Drizz_coopBrass ContributorThat's a shame we have 10,000 on semi-annual, we don't want to have to change all these to get the benefit of autopatch. please review this ASAP

Welcome to the Windows Autopatch AMA. Let's get started! Post your questions in the Comments. We will be answering questions in the live stream—and others will be answering here in the chat.
- HeyHey16KIron Contributor
If there is a problem with a patch on a small number of our computers, but the rest are OK, will Microsoft still resolve the issues? Or will you only investigate if the patch fails on a set percentage of our devices (e.g. it has to fail on at least 10% before it will be investigated)? How soon after patch install failure will the issue be investigated and resolved please?
- TylerPlesetzFormer EmployeeHey Michelle. If a patch does not get applied to a single device or set of devices, we will do our best, using our telemetry, to determine the reason why. If we discover that a device requires Microsoft action in order to receive a patch, we will take action to resolve. In short, we do not require a minimum threshold of a particular patch to fail before investigating.
- HeyHey16KIron ContributorThank you Tyler 🙂

The Windows Autopatch AMA starts soon. Post your questions in the Comments now.
- Aaron_ManBrass ContributorAccording to the Autopatch documentation the first deployment ring is 1% of the registered devices can you please state if these machines are just randomly selected or is there some intelligent criteria used. For example do you try to come up with a good cross section of the environment using hardware/software inventory.
- SoupAtMSFTFormer EmployeeWindows Autopatch presently attempts to ensure that your device population is represented in each ring. In early, small, heterogenous populations you may see higher populations in First initially.
- Ryan MorashIron ContributorWhy is Autopatch not currently available for educational customers (A3 and A5 licenses). Is there a timeline for it expanding to those licenses?

Hi Ryan, we are currently working on bringing all the Autopatch capabilities to our Windows E3/5 customers. While we do not have a timeline, we are aware of the strong interest in Autopatch among our Education customers and working on a plan. I will share updates on our blog once available.- Ryan MorashIron Contributor
It is nearly two years later and there has still not been any update other than as of March it is still not on the roadmap. The US government has been pushing vendors to give schools tools to make their devices secure and I’m surprised Microsoft is not following this directive.
