- Taylor_SandCopper ContributorWith Windows 11, will there be a noticeable speed improvement doing a fresh installation, or could end users upgrade in-place and see improved speeds?
- Joe_Lurie
Microsoft
If the question is about the speed of the installation, your end-user will see a faster in-place upgrade, as most of the work happens behind the scenes while the user is working. If the question is about the speed of the device once Windows 11 is installed, there are too many factors to answer absolutely. I recommend using a service like Endpoint analytics to determine what is causing the device to run slowly. Endpoint analytics works on Windows 10 and Windows 11.- Taylor_SandCopper ContributorSorry, should have been clearer. When Windows 10 came out, we had a bunch of users in-place upgrade from 7 to 10. A user with the same programs and hardware saw a significant performance increase by doing a fresh install compared to another user with the same software and hardware that did the in-place upgrade. I was looking to see if Windows 11 would be the same way when upgrading from Windows 10 (as Windows 10 will have had years of updates and file accumulation like Windows 7 did), or if Windows 11 is smarter with the in-place upgrade and file cleanup so that while a fresh install is always best, would it see as great of an improvement as the jump from 7 to 10 did?
- Christian ZenzanoCopper ContributorWill current insider release of Windows 11 boot to VHD ?
- Sudhagar Thirumoolan
Microsoft
Can you please elaborate a bit more on Windows 11 boot to VHD? How are you expecting to use that?- Christian ZenzanoCopper Contributori would like to set up a VHD on my laptop to Run Windows 11 side by side with Windows 10. In that past i was able to use boot to VHD to do this. I want to confirm i will also be able to do this with Windows 11.
- R_StarzuftIron ContributorIt always pays to read the build notes...
- Christian ZenzanoCopper ContributorWill Microsoft continue to notify what ADMX controls have been removed on new Windows Versions.
- Christian ZenzanoCopper ContributorIs there an answer to this question?
- ChrisWilliamsCopper ContributorWith the target date of 2025 as the last support date for Windows 10 will Microsoft have an extension support program as you had with Windows 7 at a cost to allow for those legacy apps which for whatever reason do transition well to Windows 11 and need to be kept on Windows 10 until they are able to be migrated. I understand and we have used the App Assure program with success but I feel its worth an ask now as 2025 is yes 4 years away but in reality anyone who has done large rollouts 4 years is not long.

We're not quite ready to talk about any extended security update program for Windows 10. Stay tuned to the Tech Community blogs for info when its available. Note that even with Windows 7, ESU is Extended Security Updates, not Extended Support.- Christian ZenzanoCopper Contributor
Joe_Lurie Microsoft life cycle page for Windows 10 states "Microsoft will continue to support at least one Windows 10 Semi-Annual Channel until October 14, 2025."

- R_StarzuftIron ContributorWhat facility to Insiders have for support ? When I had an Assure program the support could help with personal Windows but not with Insider Windows. Who can Insiders reach out to ? Already use Community and more.

- ChrisWilliamsCopper ContributorWhen will the ISOs for Windows 11 be released through the Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center? Presently we are testing Windows 11 via the insider builds which are mentioned but we are just curious if there are any ETAs when the ISO's will be available to be able to build wims for deployment to test devices etc.
- Joe_Lurie

Thanks, Chris. This is a common question. We expect the preview ISO to be available in the coming weeks.- ChrisWilliamsCopper ContributorThanks I have been monitoring and I guess will continue to do so :).
- Andy1Q7Copper ContributorWill there be an official Windows 11 ISO preview soon so we can deploy it without feature updating 10?
