Hello Team,
Please I am looking to understand the following:
Peer-to-Peer Updates: Seeking clarification on whether there is a method to restrict devices from downloading updates from the internet if the peered devices are not available.
- ESJeffLBrass ContributorThe struggle is using technologies can do more not less and although DO and MCC are great, third party patching is a big problem

That concludes our live stream for Delivery Optimization & Connected Cache AMA. We’re happy you’re here with us at the Microsoft Technical Takeoff! Whether you are attending one session or many, please take this 2-minute survey and let us know your thoughts on this event. We’ll continue to answer questions here in the chat for the rest of the half hour and we’ll check back throughout the rest of the week.
- SB_002Occasional ReaderWhen turning on DO in ConfigMgr, do we always need MCC configured on your DP?
- narkis
Microsoft
ConfigMgr has 2 DO options. One is to leverage your pre-defined boundary groups to create peer groups with DO's P2P. The other option is to leverage the boundary groups to tell DO clients where to find the MCC on a DP (that is within that boundary group). These 2 options can be used independently so you don't have to install MCC on a DP to leverage the boundary groups for DO's P2P.
- SigurdWernerIron ContributorIf I remember correctly some DO reporting was announced at Ignite?
- Carmen_Forsmann
Microsoft
Yes, we did announce that it would be in Preview soon! There will soon be a Windows Update for Business Delivery Optimization report. If you are interested in participating, please let me know!
- Rob de RoosIron ContributorMost of our customers haven't got CM anymore, or never had. But in some scenarios, they would love to have a caching option. Will there be something coming on a cache server/device for non CM customers?
- bdam55Iron ContributorThat's what 'Standalone' MCC is which they've talked about in the stream and the responses below.
- Rob de RoosIron ContributorAh sorry didn't link that yet in my head 😉 Thank you!
- ESJeffLBrass ContributorWhat are the throttling options with DO for sites with bad bandwith
- o_pjh
Microsoft
hello Jeffry, you can start like Narkis say you can use percentage or fixed value followed this links https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/configuration/delivery-optimization-settings#bandwidth
- bdam55Iron ContributorGreat news regarding standalone MCC. Out of pure interest: what have been the main obstacles? It's been years in the making since MMC hit ConfigMgr so standalone must have been a journey for the team.
- amyzhouFormer EmployeeHi Bryan, thanks for the question! You're right, the standalone MCC for Enterprise/Education was initially announced a few years ago. The obstacle was mainly just resourcing, which is now no longer an issue. Furthermore, this past year, our team has been focused on developing MCC for Internet Service Providers - this skew of the product is about to go to public preview.

Delivery Optimization (peer-to-peer) pretty much got shutdown by our firewall and security team. stating 'too noisy', creates so much traffic that it blows out all logging systems. Any comment?
- narkis
Microsoft
I would love to understand more about the particular issue here as this is not a common experience. DO's P2P traffic isn't using broadcast and therefore shouldn't be too noisy. In my experience where the traffic was noisy it was because of misconfiguration or a block in the Firewall that prevented the downloads from working properly and resulted in a retry loop. Erin, I will send you a private message so we can discuss the details. Thanks for bringing this to our attention!
- Rob de RoosIron ContributorSay, we have a customer with a very small internet connection using Azure AD Joined Intune managed devices and WUfB in place. Delivery optimization is on. However downloading initial updates shuts down the internet connection. What would be the best approach?
- narkis
Microsoft
By default, DO measures and targets to use no more than 45% of the available bandwidth during a background download or 90% for an interactive download (user initiated). The throttling will apply only to downloads from the “Internet” which include the HTTP source for the download as well as Group peers. Throttling will not apply to downloads from LAN peers. DO measures the download throughput that’s available all the way to the source (it doesn’t just consider the local NIC). There are policies to set different percentages than those defaults. However, if the connectivity is very slow in a site, it is best to set an absolute throttle. Please refer to this page for the complete list of policies: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/do/waas-delivery-optimization-reference - o_pjh
Microsoft
hello Rob, you can use the bandwidth limitation with fixed value https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/configuration/delivery-optimization-settings#bandwidth
