Advanced management of Universal Print
Event details
Does the current printer management in Universal Print leave you wanting more? Do you wish there is more flexibility in who can manage the printers? Join me in this session to learn how Universal Print is enabling organizations to define Printer Administrator accounts to align with their organization structure and responsibilities.
This session is part of the Microsoft Technical Takeoff: Windows + Intune. Add it to your calendar, RSVP for event reminders, and post your questions and comments below! This session will also be recorded and available on demand shortly after conclusion of the live event. |
- Martin_MillwardCopper ContributorFor us, until the "Universal Print" solution supports OS X clients it can't even be considered. It is a fact of the modern workspace that there are OS X devices, and any print solution needs to support those devices.
- Magoo01Copper Contributor100% agree, the MacOs platform must be supported as it now has a market penetration that cannot be ignored
- Jimmy_WuMicrosoftTotally agree as well. We are working towards macOS support, but we are not able to make additional comments at this time.
- MichaelHildebrandMicrosoftThere is a bit of a 'work-around' for Mac users until the solution supports it natively: Via the OneDrive for Biz web app, a user can select a file and then click 'Print' and the Universal Print dialog will open and the user can print the file on a cloud printer. Just FYI.
- JeroenvanGCopper ContributorWe would like the option to make all or specific universal printers available for guest users on a "Shared PC" device within Intune. These are users with no account within the tenant. Also it would be nice if administrators don't need a Universal Print-eligible license assigned to manage/configure Universal printing. In our case we only need to manage/configure the Universal printers, we never use these accounts to print.
- Jimmy_WuMicrosoftGood feedback. I've heard similar feedback from other customers. Please add or up vote these ideas at https://aka.ms/upideas.
- noliverdlrBrass ContributorWe have found that user management has not been as problematic as the printer drivers themselves. I work for an AEC firm that uses specialized printers/plotters that the universal print drivers sometimes don't work with correctly. Is there going to be any flexibility to push the original printer drivers from the host servers?
- Jimmy_WuMicrosoft
Our strategy is to move towards using print industry standard protocol. Part of this move is to remove the printer driver maintenance headaches and to support a broader set of client device platforms.
We understand that we have gaps in terms of the various printer device classes our support today. Plotters; wide-format printers; specialty printers; label printers are examples of printer classes that we are continuing to investigate and work with OEMs to enable support for.
