Microsoft Syntex AMA
Event details
Microsoft Syntex is Content AI integrated in the flow of work. Syntex automatically reads, tags, and indexes high volumes of content and connects it where it’s needed—in search, in applications, and as reusable knowledge. Syntex automates workflows at scale, whether you’re processing invoices, writing a contract that requires a signature, or struggling to understand the flood of unstructured content.
An AMA is a live text-based online event similar to a “YamJam” on Yammer or an “Ask Me Anything” on Reddit. This AMA gives you the opportunity to connect with Microsoft product experts who will be on hand to answer your questions and listen to feedback.
Feel free to post your questions about Microsoft Syntex anytime in the comments below beforehand, if it fits your schedule or time zone better, though questions will not be answered until the live hour.

- Wayne_AddisonCopper ContributorRe Content Assembly feature... I'm trying to generate documents from a SharePoint list with a currency column, each generated doc shows the amount without any formatting (eg shows 4500 when I would like it to show $4500.00), if I format the number to currency in Power Automate (and use the newly formatted variable) I get error 'Answer for data type currency has wrong format'. Has anyone succeeded in embedding formatted currency in documents from SP list columns? Thanks.

Thank you Wayne, we'll look into this - I'll ask our content assembly gurus to chime in on this, expect to hear from Ankit or Shreya shortly here!- Shreya_Ganguly

Thank you, Ian, for looping me in. Thanks, Wayne, for the feedback. When we tried to reproduce the issue, we saw that in manual document generation we keep the formatting of currency column in the generated document. But for automated document generation via Power Automate flow, as you correctly pointed out - we do not retain the formatting / throw error when you format the field to currency. We have logged this as a bug on our end and we will work on this. We will keep you posted with the progress we make in here. Thank you for your patience. Regards, Shreya Product@Syntex
- ja_Hor_365Brass ContributorFirst of all, congratulations to the team that has been working on Microsoft Syntex and to the community for their good contributions, ERA and ES, a great need in companies, to have the possibility of processing almost the entire universe of their source documentation in paper or digital and incorporate it into your business processes, allow me a few more queries at the end user or advanced user level in some area of a company - Is it on your roamap, add functionalities, such as barcode recognition, QR and OMR codes? - The ability to process current models or custom ones in multiple languages? - Are there approximate dates when the new releases will go into production? - Is there a way that when opening a document, the indexes are shown VERTICALLY in the interface or pop-up window, for example on the right side of the document? - Is an untrained document testing GUI contemplated for end users or CITIZEN DEVELOPERS? - The search for keywords of one or more document types within one or more libraries? and that the result gives me a list of documents where that keyword(s) is found? - There are documents that have a personalized background either with logos or referential text to the company or the process that is carried out, it is or will be possible to eliminate these characteristics and thus be able to make the OCR efficiency level more efficient ? - When templated at the level of ENTITIES within a document type, will it be possible to indicate to the engine the position of the result that it has to capture? Example: Right side, Left side, Top or Bottom of the defined entity.

Thanks Jaime! We appreciate the congrats, we're so excited for everyone to try all the capabilities of Microsoft Syntex! To your questions: Barcodes, yes, that's on the roadmap - it will depend on which type of model you're using (prebuilt models, freeform, structured), but we definitely know this is something we need to do. I can't give you specific timing. I can tell you it's unlikely to come for unstructured document processing (formerly known as document understanding) because of some tech limitations there, but for the others, our intention is yes! Multiple languages - yes, and in fact, some models support multiple languages (like unstructured document processing, it supports basically any Latin-based languages). Dates - can't comment on those generally beyond what we shared in the Ignite announcement, stay tuned to the Syntex blog (and of course the roadmap and message center) for more details. Showing indices vertically - you can expand the details pane in SharePoint and see them, but otherwise, I don't think so - good feedback we can think more about though, of course! We 100% are building Syntex for end users - they may skew a bit toward power users/citizen developers, but we don't want you to have to write code to use Syntex! Search across libraries - yes, something we hope to add to our content query feature in the future. We're also working with the Microsoft Search team on improvements we can do in/around metadata to make that more useful there, too. Editing out backgrounds/logos/etc. - no, not something we plan to do at this time, but would note that our OCR is pretty strong even with those in there, we are always looking for samples where we can improve though, if you have docs that you're having problems reading, please open a case and share with us! Position - great suggestion, will look into it! Thank you for all the questions and engagement with Syntex!

I have a few questions for this event specifically on Syntex Content Assembly (Outbound Document Generation) and if below is on Roadmap/existing.
Q1: Typically, a Template management team is different to the Team that may be generating the final document. For example, the Legal team may manage the Employment Contract Template but its HR that will generate the final named Employee Contract based on a template. Given Syntex operates on Modern Templates how can we create a security model on that Doc Lib that allows Legal team to add/update modern templates, but they have no visibility to the generated documents due to sensitive content (HR access only)?
Q2: In many countries' documents have a legal requirement to have 2 languages displayed side by side in a document like a contract. How can we parse the same template twice in the Power Automate Generate Document with Syntex action, once filling in one language fields and then the other. Or conditional steps to complete this process.
Q3: Question asked below as well, is there an API that allows systems to retrieve modern templates along with placeholder fields for use by that calling system? many systems will have specific doc generating processes, but organizations would want to manage templates and finalized documents in one place (SPO & Syntex) but not use the doc generation workflow of Syntex due to propriety workflow that generates the content?
Q4: Any impact to licensing or high-volume API calls for a scenario where let's say an example financial institution uses Syntex to generate thousands of documents (by its triggering systems) for its global millions of members and surfaces these documents to external facing secure members website to browse, search & view these documents by its members?
- tutlammctechCopper ContributorIt is very interesting questions. And that's reason to conduct events! Questions 3, I have commented on that, there is API and due to advance of AI, I think it could be possible for Cloud based.... so, all these workful of Syntex within security policy must be placed not separately. And you will hear a lot more from the presenters the experts on the fields.

Hi Mo and tutlammctechisoftware! Thank you for the great questions, I've sent to our content assembly folks to chime in, but I'll share a couple of thoughts here too: Q1 - great feature ask, we are looking at ways to create libraries of templates (and images and clauses and so forth for use with templates) and we'll consider this! Q2 - likewise, great feature ask, we'll have to look at adding this to the Power Automate capabilities. We are absolutely adding conditional capabilities to generate various clauses, but not sure it'd be exactly what you need here. I guess you could just define the template with both languages and then reuse the values...I suspect our content assembly folks will have some ideas for you on this one! Q3 - we are planning to add APIs, beyond Power Automate (which surely is not an API, I get that!), in the upcoming ~6 months or so, stay tuned! Q4 - to be direct, our *current intention* here is that an end user license of Syntex allows the user to manually create documents using content assembly, any bulk generation capabilities, at this point in time, will be in a pay as you go/consumption model.

Can you share more details around Syntex archiving? (1) expected pricing / licensing required (2) how does it impact search & audit log (3) does archiving impact SharePoint APIs? e.g. will the files still visible via the SharePoint API? (4) when a document is archived, is metadata still accessible but not the file content? To see the content need to recall the file back into SharePoint?

Microsoft
Hi Hadwin! I'll do my best to answer these, but as you'll see, some we can't comment on (particularly #1) - LOL! 1 - I can't comment on this beyond we intend at this time for it to be based on the amount of data archived and restored from the archive, aligned in a "pay as you go" type of model. This could change before we make the product generally available as discussions are ongoing. In terms of the actual price, I can tell you that we intend to make it significantly less expensive than the "hot" storage you can add today to your tenant, with the trade off being fewer features when archived, in exchange for the significantly lower price point for archive storage. 2 - The intent is that you can still search and archiving will show up in the audit logs. 3 - Probably need more detail on what type of impact you're asking about, but when things are archived, there is a reduced set of functionality (no co-authoring for instance) and so depending on the API, yes, there may be some impacts. 4 - Yes, that's the plan, and you'd need to restore back to SharePoint from the archive for the content, correct. - Chris McNultySilver ContributorSyntex archival storage will be available to most M365 commercial plans at a cost significantly lower than today's M365 "hot" storage. It will work in place, preserving metadata and searchability, but viewing or editing content with require "rehydration", and API access will be limited as a result. Syntex Archive is designed to help you keep you content in place inside the M365 trust boundary while managing your costs for less-used content at scale.
- tutlammctechCopper ContributorI like to learn about flood of unstructured content. What is significant advantage of this AMA?

This may seem like a silly question but it's something that's bothered me for at least a decade and I've yet to see anyone even on dozens of message boards over the years answer it..... Throughout Microsoft office, the application of fonts and font sizes is consistent.....with a single exception that I know of.... Conditional formatting in Outlook gives four choices; Small, Normal, Big, Bigger. That's it. And the sizes seem to make no sense whatsoever. "Normal" renders quite small. Big is too large. Right now it shows "Normal" as an 11pt font but other items throughout Outlook also set at 11 render a bit larger. If I change it to "Big" it jumps to 14 and becomes larger than everything else, even the headings. I have never been able to figure it out why this is so. Why does it not simply use the same font popup menu used by everything else throughout Office and Windows itself? I know there are dozens of much more complicated questions I could ask. I suspect many will be answered. But this one has baffled me for longer than anything else I can think of so I thought I would ask. lol

Hi There! This is an event specifically for Microsoft Syntex. It seems like you might be able to get a better answer on the M365 discussion space: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/office-365/bd-p/Office365General
- tutlammctechCopper ContributorIt is very great announcement. I really appreciated your ideas. Why do you include any native languages in Microsoft office fonts or inside the textbox pane? For instance, if I have decided to write in Nuer dialect (Nuer, Ethiopia or in South Sudan), I have to use even in the New Message Textbox Pane whilst there is translations sub content for knowing the meaning in English. I hope so, it can help the Microsoft Syntex AMA to grow faster than any competitive.
