Event details
Join us for two special events where our Planner product team shares what is coming to the new Microsoft Planner.
In our Meet the Makers virtual event on April 3rd, leaders from the Planner product team will talk about the latest on the future of task and work management for Microsoft 365. They will explain how the new Microsoft Planner brings together the simplicity of Microsoft To Do, the collaboration of Microsoft Planner, the power of Microsoft Project for the web - with the intelligence of Microsoft Copilot - into a simple, familiar experience.
Our experts will showcase some of the key new capabilities and improvements of the new experience, including demonstrations on how to leverage Copilot in Planner to create plans, tasks, and goals and get Copilot to answer questions on progress, priorities, workload and more.
On April 4, we will host a special Ask Microsoft Anything (AMA). During the AMA session members of the Planner product team will answer questions directly from the community. This is a great opportunity to get answers to any questions you may have from the recent Meet the Makers event.

- Bruce Kraft JrBrass ContributorCan we have copilot pull out tasks from recorded meetings and have them auto assigned into planner without having to double pay for teams premium? That tasks auto-assigning feature in teams premium meetings recap doesn’t work well. We’re hoping copilot we’ll also help us auto assign tasks into planner
- Your365CoachCopper ContributorAppreciate this has likely been asked, but with Task Version Control in Planner Premium, is that coming soon or under the Project Plan 3 License, today?
- Brian-SmithFormer EmployeeI'm not sure what you heard in terms of version control Scott - there is task history to help you follow what changes have been made, and baselines coming to help you compare to a previous checkpoint - but not version control in the way I would think of it.
- mataightyOccasional ReaderWill there be an easy option to create Tasks from shared mailboxes?
- ELB_LNBrass ContributorHow do we as humans continue to use our unique skills if ICT systems take a lot of work off our hands? Do we still understand why and how it works? Can Planner help us as people?

Planner has been relatively stagnant for a while - with this new big effort to integrate tools together, could you share any info about what is happening with staffing the internal teams? Is it the same staff just aimed at this integration now? Or has MS been hiring additional resources to increase time spent on this product and we should expect to see a faster pace of change?

Holly1 What if Copilot was able to identify reusable blocks of tasks in your projects? What if you could build a new project from those task blocks?
Example:
Copilot can see that an account has 10 projects for building a new home. The 10 projects are for different custom homes, but there are similar blocks of tasks for building a bathroom, landscaping, installing a pool, etc. When creating a new project, Copilot can see that this is another project for building a new home and can ask if the user would like to add tasks for building a bathroom, landscaping, etc. It would then add tasks from the other projects in the account, not tasks from the world at large. - TimLynch-OCMBrass ContributorLove the new logo but a co-worker mentioned "It kind of looks like it's a three finger hand, giving the middle finger! "
- AlexJacquetCopper Contributorahaha now that you say it !!
- jvieira1Copper ContributorLol. I had the same thought your co-worker had.
- Sandy_RiceBrass ContributorWill we ever be able to have Planner in a shared channel in Teams or will that not be possible since a shared Plan requires a group?
- AlexanderLahuerta
Microsoft
Hi Sandy, support for shared channels isn't something that is included in the launch of the new Planner. When we look beyond the launch, we'll be considering all the incoming ideas coming in from our customers. Can you vote for your vote for the feature over in our feedback portal? Thanks! https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/forum/a1a93b69-2f1c-ec11-b6e7-0022481f8472

This is a deal breaker when building an architecture trying to minimized M365 group/Teams proliferation. Also, having the possibility to get external users (B2B direct connect) access to shared channel planner tasks would fullfill a common business case.
Same thing for private channel:

This has been an ask for years with multiple posts on different feedback portals. I think it’s time to just say that the technical setup with M365 Groups just doesn’t work with Planner in Private or Shared channels. And that’s fine. You just get people excited otherwise. If it’s in the Backlog for years and you hear a lot of people asking for it, why is this not actively worked on?
- ELB_LNBrass ContributorWill it be possible to edit a comment after posting?
- Matthias_WaltherCopper ContributorActually there is no comment function in a taks created in a new planner (basic). in a plan created in old style there is the comment function available.
- Brian-SmithFormer EmployeeThere is the comment capability still Matthias - but it needs a Group, so if you choose not to attach or create a group then you don't see comments (it is a personal plan). To Ellen's point you cannot edit as these are stored as an e-mail thread - and you can't go back and edit an e-mail you've sent (plenty of times I wished I could!).
- AmberBainesCopper ContributorWill planner have the ability to produce project status reports?
- RobynGua
Microsoft
AmberBaines I would love to learn more about what you envision for a status report feature - what information do you see as most important for a status report generated for your plan, how do you expect to use these reports (would you send it out to your team weekly, use it to quickly catch up on a plan, or something else), or anything you can share to help us make this a great feature for you would be super helpful!
- Hughes818Iron ContributorHow about just copying the relevant reports over from Project Operations?
