Microsoft Planner AMA
Event Ended
Thursday, Apr 04, 2024, 10:00 AM PDTEvent details
Join us for two special events where our Planner product team shares what is coming to the new Microsoft Planner.
In our Meet the Makers virtual event on April 3rd, leaders from the Planner product team will talk about the latest on the future of task and work management for Microsoft 365. They will explain how the new Microsoft Planner brings together the simplicity of Microsoft To Do, the collaboration of Microsoft Planner, the power of Microsoft Project for the web - with the intelligence of Microsoft Copilot - into a simple, familiar experience.
Our experts will showcase some of the key new capabilities and improvements of the new experience, including demonstrations on how to leverage Copilot in Planner to create plans, tasks, and goals and get Copilot to answer questions on progress, priorities, workload and more.
On April 4, we will host a special Ask Microsoft Anything (AMA). During the AMA session members of the Planner product team will answer questions directly from the community. This is a great opportunity to get answers to any questions you may have from the recent Meet the Makers event.

what is plan for task level permissions.. restricting only assigned user to take action on task. Have seen many incident where others have accidently completed tasks not assigned to them as its just a gentle touch to complete task 🙂

- Rita_SeatonCopper ContributorWill you offer certifications for Planner?
- blconti1970Copper ContributorI think this was mentioned yesterday but, will there be sessions on the new Planner at the M365 Community Conference in Orlando?

Microsoft
Hi Brenda, Yes, we will have many experts at M365 Conference and a session: There will be more opportunity to engage with customers at the Microsoft 365 Community Conference, taking place April 30 – May 3 in Orlando. Customers can attend our session, “Unifying Task Management in Microsoft Teams,” and ask our on-site experts how to get started with Planner in Teams.
- Bruce Kraft JrCopper ContributorNnoooo! Having to rely on teams for a notification queue is not the way to go!!! The teams notification is ALREADY cluttered Plus there are some companies who don’t want to and refuse to use teams Using teams to get a full list of tasks activity is not positioning planner as a stand alone solution! This decision will only drive more people towards clickup! Besides, planner having their own notification queue will help us stay organized when it pertains to TASKS AND COMMENT-RELATED TASKS-BASED NOTIFICATIONS ALONE… We SHOULD NOT BE FORCED TO USE TEAMS FOR A NOTIFICATION QUEUE!!
- praveen36Copper Contributor
Absolutely agree! Planner should be a self-contained app and not rely on Teams. Teams notifications can get too cluttered and it would be advantageous to have only Task notifications within the app built for Projects and Tasks.
- mherremaIron ContributorTotally agree, shooting themselves in the foot relying on Teams here.
- atrain204Steel Contributoragreed. At least make it optional, but I'd rather see the activity history in the Planner UI
- Serge TremblayCopper ContributorWhen you create a recurring task, with a monthly recurrence, the recurrence is recreated as soon as the tasks is completed, it does not get recreated in the next month on next week based on the recurrence settings. Is there a plan to get the recurring tasks to be recurring according to the settings?
- PMcGown_MVPIron Contributor
I've seen this change recently and there is now a toggle introduced in the Schedule view to "Hide future recurring tasks". Maybe having this toggle on the other views may be helpful?
- PMcGown_MVPIron ContributorWe love it for individual task management. One of the key lessons we've learned is that date assignments really matter, otherwise, tasks tend to get lost at the bottom of the list of My Tasks.
- KateG1400Copper ContributorIs there a known date when the new planner will be 100% rolled out?
- Laura_Becker
Microsoft
Hi Kate, We are rolling out the Teams Planner app slowly to make sure we get feedback and address any bugs. We hope to have it rolled out over the next month and then we will also be bringing Copilot to general availability.
- lexgee02Copper ContributorWait - so if you're using Planner for 1-1s that means other people in the group are privied to private discussions/tasks not related to them?
- lemonlime618Occasional ReaderConsidering leveraging Teams and Planner for Incident Response events.
