Unpacking Endpoint Management: Set it and forget it? Windows update innovations
Event details
So much has happened in the world of Windows servicing over the last year.
A new feature update, update stack, policies, and guidance plus the delivery of continued innovation through servicing technology. Danny and Steve thought it would be a good idea to bring back the Windows Servicing & Delivery team to recap all of the great transformation this past year and perhaps offer a sneak peek at what's coming next. This is also a great opportunity to find out how to streamline update management and improve the experience for your IT team and end users.
We'll be answering your questions live so post them below in the Comments below early and throughout the broadcast.

- treestryderIron ContributorWhat do driver rings configured with Intune look like? Is this the Feature deferral days setting?

Ah, the future micromanagement solution. Glad to hear there will be an auto-update, with exceptions, model. I have enough to do. 😉
- VanakenJBrass ContributorDelivery Optimization is a crucial part of update delivery. Currently the reports only give global statistics for groups, ISP's or certain update groups (WU, M365 apps, drivers...). Are there any further plans for Delivery Optimization reporting and diagnostics to for example be able to drill down into the reports, see Delivery Optimization reports on computer PC level or detect issues within a group ?

- lalanc01Iron ContributorFor the WUFB new driver and firmware solution. Will it support bios password and will have have most firmware (for example: Intel engine Firmware update) and bios versions that are provided by the major vendors and if not do you have examples and explanations? Thks

Have a look at DFCI to manage BIOS settings. Currently supported by Microsoft Surface, Acer, Panasonic, Fujitsu, Other OEMs are pending.
- lalanc01Iron Contributorthank you for the reply. Sadly we manage Dell/Lenovo/HP, so we would still need to have this tool support such firmware in order to avoid using multiple tools to update pcs.
- marioseguinCopper Contributorhi, 2 comments: #1 Often WuFB drivers are outdated vs what manufacturer releases. I understand that there is a certification process but it seems very long. #2 Setup and forget didn't work for us with a lenovo bios update. It bricked bunch of devices where we had to stop the deployment. Thanks

Thank you for this session. Our company has transitioned to cloud WUfB, with rings. We have recently had two different drivers automatically update and break the key services these PCs provide. Neither driver can be found in the Microsoft Update Catalog. Shouldn't everything that will automatically install be found in the MUC, hopefully by something found in the update logs?
My other question is what can we do about problem drivers? I know we can stop ALL driver updates. I know we can micromanage driver updates, currently without a GUI. I know we can continue to try to convince first level support at these companies, who do not understand we will not manually install drivers, that they need to fix their driver. What I wondered is, does/could Microsoft have a process for reporting driver update problems? Something that could more directly communicate to the folks doing the driver publishing at these large companies.

- treestryderIron ContributorWe have clean Windows, without 3rd party driver-updaters. These updates are found in the Windows Update log.
