Will there be any way to interface with Copilot (in Office, on Windows) from a VSTO addin or an Office JS addin? For example: use it to ask a question, read the answers, modify or extend it in anyway. - Ben_Summers
Microsoft
Hey! Right now there are not any plans to support add-ins (VSTO or web) without requiring some additional modification / development work. It's possible that this will change in the longer term. Copilot integration is possible using existing (or new) Teams Message Extensions, Power Platform Connectors and OpenAI plugins.- Will_Barry_UpSlideCopper ContributorThanks Ben (and good morning!) - what's the method of feedback delivery you'd advise a Solutions Partner use on this topic to ensure the appropriate customer insights can allow that long term planning?
- Someone449Brass ContributorI realize you cannot comment on production release dates but can you guesstimate when it will be available for *public* preview?
- Yana Terukhova
Microsoft
We have nothing to share at this point yet.
- Someone449Brass ContributorHow long will Copilot remember prompts/conversations? In other words, if I close the application and re-open it, do I lose context?
- GabeHoFormer EmployeeHey Cody, thanks for your question, more on prompt experience will be made available in the future.
- Someone449Brass ContributorYour general technical requirements state that customers must be on the Current Channel or Monthly Enterprise Channel for M365 to have access to Microsoft Copilot. Does this mean M365 users on the Semi-Annual Channel will never be able to receive Copilot, or does this only mean they would have to wait 6 months for the feature to reach their channel? Most enterprise customers are likely on the Semi-Annual Channel.
- Yana Terukhova
Microsoft
For the near future, Copilot will only be on these two channels. No dates yet on when it will hit Semi-Annual Channel, if it eventually does.
- Matsuura_KeisuikeOccasional ReaderAre there any restrictions on files aggregated by Copilot? It was 16MB in Azure OpenAI add your data, so are there types such as text data, Word, PDF, etc. with 16MB capacity?
- GabeHoFormer EmployeeHello, could you please provide more context on the question. Thank you!
- BA_MaxIron Contributor
Thanks for the opportunity to ask questions ahead of the big release, I've collated a few questions from accross my firm:
- The question everyone will likely ask --> Costing
- The second question everyone will likely ask --> Release dates
- Will data be stored and processed solely in UK data centres (for a UK based tenant)?
- Will data be transmitted outside of the UK ("")?
- Will all staff need a license upgrade or will it be possible to target specific staff to give Copilot to?
- Will anyone outside of the company have access to data (i.e., if we store client data, this will determine what we can make use of Copilot for)
- What is the most practical way to "feed" data to the relevant space for Copilot; i.e., would it be best to have all relevant meeting notes in the same place if asking for a summary or would location not matter?
- Will there be a maximum document size when giving Copilot context?
- Will there be a limit of queries to Copilot per hour/day/month etc.?
Thanks a lot, looking forward to the future!

- Is Semantic Index for Copilot with the ability to extend MS365 Copilot with MS Graph connectors will be available with the early access program or this will happen in a future timeframe?
- Is the ability to extend MS365 Copilot with plugins will be available with the early access program or this will happen in a future timeframe?
- To have Business Chat working properly are we going to have any 1st party plugins that we will need to enable in the Teams admin center? This is what was mentioned in the MS announcement blog post! “Finally, to leverage cross-app intelligence experiences in Teams, you’ll need to enable plugins using the Teams admin center.”
- Will MS365 Copilot will be able to work with and extract data from content documents/emails encrypted with sensitivity labels encrypt feature? Last time I checked Viva Topics can’t do that for example!
- Ben_Summers
Microsoft
Hi Mahmoud. Answers: - Yes, if the Graph Connector is properly configured, its data is brought into Semantic Index for Copilot - now. - We do expect to make Copilot extensible with plugins for Copilot EAP customers. - I may need more clarity on what you mean by 1st party plugins. I view that to mean "plugins built by Microsoft". Can you elaborate? - Copilot can reason across emails with sensitivity labels, however the user who prompts Copilot *must* have permission to view that information. Also note that Copilot will reference the labeled document or email but require that the user click through to see its contents.- Mahmoud HassanCopper Contributor
Ben_Summers By 1st party plugins I mean, Is Business Chat will come with developed plugins from MS that we will need to enable for it to work properly for example or nothing need to be done at this stage?
For Copilot reasoning across content with sensitivity labels, user need to have access this is clear. I just want to confirm again that this will work also when the sensitivity labels include encryption as this was a blocker before, could you please confirm again on this?

- csteghCopper ContributorHi, getting customer ?s like "I have some data that's not in 365. Can I use Copilot to draw info out from such data?" An example would be NetDocs (legal doc mgmt system). I'm hearing mixed messages about using GraphAPI to connect third party data sources, but what capabilities/caveats do you suggest we articulate? Thanks!
- GabeHoFormer EmployeeYes, external data brought it with Microsoft Graph connectors will be included in Copilot responses. Please see the following documentation: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/platform/copilot/how-to-extend-copilot#connecting-external-data-sources
- Marius SandbuBrass ContributorThen you would need to connect the data using the Graph Connectors. supported data sources are here https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftsearch/connectors-overview#what-data-sources-can-be-connected-to-microsoft-search

1. Where is IT guidance documentation on setting up, managing, governing, and / or disabling the Copilot features? 2. My IT leadership is very worried about what happens to company data when it is leveraged by Copilot / GPT. Where is the LLM in relation to our tenant? Does our data and/or prompts leave our geographic region? Is our corporate data used to train the AI? We will need more than assurances here. I would like to see technical documentation explaining exactly what is done with our data. 3. What security controls are available, to make sure 3rd parties / unauthorized users do not have access to our data? What steps can be taken to mitigate the risk of an insider threat, e.g. an employee who can now more easily find trends of information where previously they only had access to Search or Discovery. The scenario one security guy posed to me was, "With Copilot, could they say "find everything you have on Project X-Ray"; and even though the project is kept secret from employees, they could still figure it out? This is assuming that the information is out there and they have access to it, but it's obfuscated. 4. I know you probably can't answer licensing questions yet, but based on what I've seen in the MS Mechanics videos, I'd assume that Copilot is a premium and won't be broadly available. Will there be any free or "seed" versions of Copilot? 5. Are there policies / controls to completely disable Copilot? 6. At the application level, is Copilot an add-in that could be disabled or governed by policy? Or is it integrated into the app as a feature? 7. Is Copilot for web applications only, or will desktop apps have that capability? What is the offline experience?
- GabeHoFormer Employee1. Where is IT guidance documentation on setting up, managing, governing, and / or disabling the Copilot features? Check out this blog post on getting ready for Copilot. During the EAP, admins will be able to manage Copilot licenses as they typically do. More documentation and details on controls will be provided as they are made available. Copilot is built on top of and integrated with Microsoft 365. This integration enables you to take advantage of the existing Microsoft security, compliance, and privacy solutions that you’ve already deployed in your organization as well as other controls that may be made available to help you configure the use of Copilot as appropriate for your organization. Customer data is not used to train the LLM models. Check out this article on privacy and security for more info: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?linkid=2239751 3. The permissions model within your Microsoft 365 tenant can help ensure that data won't unintentionally leak between users, groups, and tenants. Microsoft 365 Copilot presents only data that each individual can access using the same underlying controls for data access used in other Microsoft 365 services. Check out this blog article for tips on preventing oversharing https://aka.ms/AAlj6ef 4. I know you probably can't answer licensing questions yet, but based on what I've seen in the MS Mechanics videos, I'd assume that Copilot is a premium and won't be broadly available. Will there be any free or "seed" versions of Copilot? More information on licensing/pricing/availability to come. 5. Are there policies / controls to completely disable Copilot? The EAP is a paid preview program for a limited set of users, assigned by the admin. More documentation and details on controls will be provided as they are made available. 6. At the application level, is Copilot an add-in that could be disabled or governed by policy? Or is it integrated into the app as a feature? Copilot will be available as a separate product. More documentation and details on licensing and controls will be provided as they are made available. 7. Is Copilot for web applications only, or will desktop apps have that capability? What is the offline experience? Copilot will be available for Microsoft 365 web, mobile, and desktop apps. There will not be an offline experience.

The team will answer these questions and more at our AMA but take a look at all our technical readiness guidance and video series at https://adoption.microsoft.com/copilot. That is a great place to get started. In general though Microsoft 365 Copilot will respect the user based permissions you have in your tenant like any other Microsoft service. So, in your example above if you don't have access to Project X-Rey Copilot can't summarize that for you or use those documents. You can read more on that at the documentation links and guidance above and we will continually update that page as more guidance, customer use cases and content becomes available. - Marius SandbuBrass ContributorThey have stated in the documentation, that if the OpenAI instance has to high utilization the LLM prompt CAN be sent to another region (but within the same region) such as for EU based tenants that prompt will never leave the EU, but data from a West Europe based tenant can be sent to another OpenAI instance within EU.
