Word problem captioning pictures

I have a situation with Microsoft Word 2016 and captions for pictures. I have two separate solutions, but I cannot find out how to do either. When I insert an automatic caption to a picture, word puts a sequential number in front of my words (first picture). This is not too much of a problem for me, as I think the numbers are good. However, when I automatically generate a table of the captions, they are not numbered and I cannot find a way to add numbers to this table. 

So I have two, linked questions. Is it either possible to turn off the numbers to the captions or alternatively is it possible to add the sequential numbers to the table?

I am not a very 'tech savvy' user, so if you can make a suggestion, could you spell out how to do it in 'layman's terms'.
