Word is suddenly doing weird things with my documents.

Hi

Need help!! Word is suddenly doing weird things with my documents. It has changed the formatting of all the documents I now open. If I open a new document the formatting is normal but once I save it, close it, and then re-open it, my page is wider, I have lost my scroll bars and there are no page breaks. I can't change any of that using the menu bar or options, etc. It just doesn't respond. 

I uninstalled my program and re-installed it, but that had no effect!

If anyone can suggest anything I would be most thankful.
