Word 2010 page number problems

Help!  I'm trying to renumber my 2010 .docx file, starting at physical page 11 as page 1.  In certain sections of the document, the page number shows up, but in earlier sections, it completely disappears.  I've been online, done everything that all the "help" posts say to do, all to no effect.  Is there a free app out there somewhere that allows you to renumber your entire document, starting at a specific physical page number, and also allows you to determine where and how the page number is displayed?  Or, if anyone knows a trick I don't know, I'd be all for that, too!  Thanks for any help you can provide!  God bless!!!

  • You don't need another app for this. It sounds like your document has section breaks with different header/footer settings, so the page numbers aren't linked across all sections. Check that Link to Previous is enabled where needed, then use Format Page Numbers and set the section starting on physical page 11 to begin at 1.

There is no free app or paid app of which I am aware.

I have a free one that lets you make the page numbering continuous throughout the document.

That does not, however, control how they display.

What you need is an understanding of how page numbering and headers and footers work in Word. Page numbers are fields in headers and/or footers. Headers and footers are parts of sections. Every section can have three of each. These are independent of one another.

Those in each section can be linked to the like part in the previous section and repeat that content.

Note that any control over these things depends on using the desktop application. Such fine control is not available in the mobile or online apps. The different programs called Word offered by Microsoft - a pdf
