Tracking changes when the boss says not to use tracking. A private self annotations tool?
Is there a third party tool to make invisible notes on Word documents?
I am required to receive and send Word documents from my boss, but my boss will not let me use any of the change tracking features, or comments features.
I tried the DRAW function, making small dots to track what I need to do, but they complained. I made blank comments to their comments so I could see what comments I've actions, but they didn't like that either.
I can use a separate file to take notes, but I really need something IN-LINE with the text I'm working on.

First, I agree with Charles_Kenyon that the boss's prohibition seems extreme? I'll concede that sometimes comments can be annoying, so they need to be approached with moderation...
What kind of documents are you talking about? How many iterations do they go through before being "final"?
Is it possible to just keep copies of each successive version on your own system, perhaps exporting them as PDF to a device like the reMarkable, where you can make annotations to your heart's content on each private copy?

Here, the problem is sitting in your boss' chair.
You can use the Combine and Merge functions under Track Changes for your own copy.Keep separate copies of versions.
This will give you the Tracked changes without them ever going to your boss but you will be able to see them.
