To keep footnotes separate for each chapter

To keep footnotes separate for each chapter, I understand I need to use "page break." Is that the onlly way?

My page break function does not work. It does not even show up on the page.

  • cgorga As footnotes normally appear at the bottom of each page, I assume that you mean EndNotes

To do what you want, you will need to insert a Section Break between each chapter, so that each chapter is in a separate Section of the document.   Then in the Footnote and Endnote dialog, accessed via the dialog launcher highlighted in yellow in the following screen shot, you have the option of having the Endnotes appear at the End of Section, or at the End of Document.

If a Chapter contains multiple Sections, you can suppress the endnotes until the last Section of the Chapter by using the Suppress Endnotes facility for the Sections of the Chapter before the file Section via the Layout tab of the Page Setup dialog.
