Spelling doesnt work
The spelling check isn’t working in word; it doesn’t show spelling suggestions or autocorrect on my MacBook.

Proofing language settings are set on a character level, not for the document.
Select an obviously misspelled word and check the settings for that word. Make sure that "Do not check spelling or grammar' is not checked.
AutoCorrect is a related but separate function from spell checking.
The major reason spell check may fail on macOS is that the document text is assigned an incorrect language or the “Do not check spelling or grammar” option has been enabled. Adjusting the language settings and confirming that automatic spelling and grammar checking are activated typically resolves the issue:
