Sections Breaks VS. My Headers and Footers!

In my document (which is rather long), I have a few different places where I want to have a landscape page rather than a portrait page to fit items such as maps or tables. I figured out how to do this with section breaks - however, this leads to new problems.

  • The page after I wrap up the "section" no longer has any header or footer at all (not having a header and footer is fine on the map/table pages, but I want them on all of the portrait orientation pages)
  • The pages after that now have the incorrect page numbers

I have tried finding routes to adjust for this ranging from trying to add in new page numbers again, to adding in headers again, but there are always issues such as the new page number counts being wrong, headers being added to the map pages where they aren't wanted, or accidentally removing all headers from the document except for the single page I'm working on.

Any advice on workarounds for this problem?

  • Keyllis In many cases using Alignment Tabs - available in the Position section of the Header & Footer tab of the ribbon, will allow you so simply use the Link to Previous facility to have the header\footer that same in both portrait and landscape oriented Sections.

If you don't want the header\footer on the landscape pages, you can either copy it from the previous portrait Section and after turning off the Link to Previous for the portrait Section after the landscape Section, paste it into the Header\Footer pane for that Section.

Alternatively, set the Link to Previous for all Sections so that the Header\Footer appears in all of them, and then turn off the Link to Previous for all Sections and delete the Header and Footer from the Section where you do not want it.
