Sections Breaks option not available in document
I created a document, initially in OpenOffice and saved as Word 2003. I recently opened it in Word 2019 and saved it as .docx
I put in endnotes to appear at the end of each section which worked fine with the first section. However when I came to create a second section after the notes, 'Breaks' is greyed out on the Layout menu. Neither can I create a new page (Ctrl Enter) after the notes. I've tried creating a blank document with more pages than the original and importing the file into it but notes simply go to the end of the document and I can't add more pages or a new section. I'm frustrated enough with Word without all this! Can anyone help please?

You can't insert a section break in the endnote area. Instead, you have to insert your section break at the end of the main body of the document.
You can suppress the display of endnotes for all sections except for the one where you want the notes to appear. Use the "Suppress endnotes" option in the Page Setup dialog box.
For more, see https://wordmvp.com/FAQs/Formatting/FootnoteFAQ.htm#TextAfterNotes (but note that the article hasn't been updated for the most recent versions of Word).
- BriGBCopper ContributorMany thanks, Stefan. I sassed that a few moments ago. Thanks for the info on suppressing. That will be useful until I've compile all the sections of the book.

But, here's what I want. Chapter 1 ends with its customary endnotes., Chapter 2 begns and its endnotes, from 1-55 or so, appear at the end of Chapter 2. The pagination continues from Chapter 1, to 2, etc without a break. Is that how section breaks work if my Word is working correctly? Or am i expecting too much?
