screenshot image issue after upgrading MS Word 2018 to MacBook Pro in late January 2024
Ever since MS Word or Office 2018 automatically upgraded to the latest update in late January 2024, I've ben having issues with it. Although I can still copy and paste text from one Word file to another, when I try to copy and paste text on a website, it only copy and pastes as a screenshot image of the text instead of the text itself in the space. If I have multiple MS Word files open at the same time, the SAVE button option does not show when I click on the SAVE link under File. Only the CANCEL option shows instead of also SAVE. I usually have to restart my laptop for the SAVE option to show up again. However, it still only copies and pastes as a screenshot image even after I restart my laptop. Is there a way to fix this or restore MS Word 2018 to default. If I restore it to default, there may be lots of missing updates that are needed.

1. Check the Word version: Open Microsoft Word and click “Word” > “About Word”.
Make sure Word has been updated to the latest version. If not, update it with the Microsoft AutoUpdate tool.
2. Check the image resolution: Make sure that the inserted screenshot image has a high enough resolution (at least 300 DPI is recommended).
If the image resolution is low, try to use a higher resolution screenshot tool (the screenshot tool that comes with macOS or a third party tool).
3. Adjust the image settings in Word: In Word, right-click on the image and select “Set Picture Format”.
In the “Pictures” tab, check whether the “Compress pictures” option is enabled. If it is enabled, try disabling the option.
In the Layout tab, make sure that the image is not set to Embed Text or Tight Surround, which may cause image distortion.
4. Check macOS display settings: Open “System Settings” > “Display”.
Make sure your monitor's resolution and scaling settings are appropriate for your needs. If the scaling is set too high, the image may not display clearly.
5. Try another image format: Save the screenshot in another format (PNG or TIFF) and reinsert it into Word.
The PNG format is usually better for saving high-quality screenshots.
6. Reset Word Preferences: Close Microsoft Word.
Open Finder and navigate to ~/Library/Preferences/.
Locate and delete the following files:
com.microsoft.Word.plist
com.microsoft.office.plist
Restart Word and the system will automatically generate a new preferences file.
7. Check for system updates: Open “System Settings” > “General” > “Software Update”.
Make sure macOS and all related drivers have been updated to the latest version.
8. Contact Microsoft Support: If none of the above methods work, it is recommended to contact Microsoft Support team and provide detailed error messages and screenshots for further assistance.
